'Cats Lose Final Game of Series Against Cal State San Bernardino

SAN BERNARDINO, California. – Central Washington (0-4) baseball lost 6-19 to Cal State San Bernardino (3-0) on Saturday, wrapping up their series with the Coyotes.

QUOTING HEAD COACH DESI STOREY
"We couldn't get ahead in the count, weren't consistent. With a good hitting team, you have to be ahead of the count. Couldn't get it in and be consistently ahead. That was where we gave up blank in third and fourth. Early in the game we didn't set the tempo."
 
When asked how the 'Cats will respond for the next series Desi said, "The big thing is get rid of the little mistakes we are making that are leading to runs."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CSUSB took the 3-1 lead in the top of the second. Travis Helm's single to right scored Larson. However, a sac fly and back-to-back singles scored three runs for the Coyotes.
  • Cal State San Bernardino scored two runs in the third and Garcia hit a two-run shot to right center which made it 8-2 going into the 5th.
  • Macias singled through the left side, scoring two runs to make it 11-2. Macias advanced to third and scored on a passed ball pushing the score to 13-2.
  • Travis Helm singled to left center for CWU driving in two runs which made it 4-13 in the bottom of the 7th. Garcia homered to right center extending the Coyote's lead to 13. Carter Olsen responded for the 'Cats launching a homer to left-center which made it 6-17 in the 8th inning. Cal State San Bernardino scored two more runs in the 9th to win 19-6.
PITCHING
  • Daniel Charron started the game for the 'Cats and worked through three innings. Robertson came in to relieve Charron in the bottom of the fifth he went 2.1 innings.
  • Nolan Murphy came in the bottom of the 6th and worked one inning. Zach Connors came in as the closer working through the end of the game.
HITTING UP NEXT
  • The 'Cats will regroup for a series next week against Cal State East Bay. The games will be on Saturday, February 11th, and Sunday, February 12th at 1 and 4 p.m.
