Wildcats Suffer Pair of Setbacks to Wolves

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Central Washington suffered two setbacks to Western Oregon 3-9, 2-10 on Saturday.

QUOTING HEAD COACH DESI STOREY
"We just didn't play well today all the way around. Daniel gave us some good innings and kept us in it. We gave up some more runs late, made some errors, and offensively we didn't stick with the plan."

Desi added, "Milliman did a good job going late in the game and we weren't scoring and gave up runs late. We need to be better in all aspects and get after it tomorrow."

GAME ONE CWU 3 – WOU 9
  • Central Washington struck first when Trenton Love hit an RBI single to right field that scored Larson and Helm to put the 'Cats up 2-0. In the bottom of the first, Western Oregon's John Oleson roped a double to right center that tied the game at two.
  • In the fourth inning, Charlie Larson hit a sac fly and Brady Hinkle scored to give the 'Cats the 3-2 advantage.
  • Western Oregon responded in the bottom of the fourth. AJ Cortese hit into a double play, but Curran Mitzel scored to tie the game at three.
  • The Wolves regained the lead in the fifth inning when Derek Maiben hit a double and Jacob Maiben scored on a throwing error. Next up, Curran Mitzel reached on an error and Derek Maiben scored to give the Wolves the 5-3 lead.
  • The 'Cats struggled to capitalize offensively leaving 11 runners on base.
  • Western Oregon utilized consistent hitting the rest of the game and won 9-3. Dylan Chalmers picked up his fifth win on the mound for the Wolves.
HITTING PITCHING
  • Daniel Charron got the start for Central Washington. He threw five innings and struck out two batters. Jonathan Garza II came in and worked two innings fanning two Wolves. Zach Conners finished the game for the Wildcats.
GAME TWO CWU 2 – WOU 10
  • Ben Leid got the 'Cats on the board hitting a sacrifice fly that scored Larson. Next, "Baba" Varner Jr. put Central Washington up 2-0 with an RBI double to right center.
  • The Wolves responded by scoring six runs in the bottom of the first. Curran Mitzel hit an RBI double and tied the game at two. Then, Derek Maiben scored on a wild pitch, then Jacob Oleson hit an RBI single up the middle. Justyn Herzog hit a single through the right side that scored two more runs and put the Wolves up 6-2.
  • Western Oregon added two more runs in the fourth inning. Derek Maiben and AJ Cortese both hit sac flies that scored a run.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, AJ Cortese roped an RBI double down the left-field line extending the Wolve's lead to eight.
  • Sebasten Boivin came in and helped the Wolves complete the day one sweep.
HITTING PITCHING
  • Alex Brady got the start for Central Washington. Western Oregon got to Brady early and Nolan Milliman came in and threw five innings striking out two batters. Gab Bustamante entered in the sixth inning and finished the game for the 'Cats.
UP NEXT
  • The Wildcats will regroup for the final two games of the series against Western Oregon starting tomorrow at noon.
