Wildcats Swept by Wolves

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Central Washington baseball got swept by Western Oregon losing the final two games of the series 1-14 and 2-5 on Sunday.

QUOTING HEAD COACH DESI STOREY
"We just didn't play very well, didn't adjust at the plate, and didn't put together many opportunities to score runs. We made five errors in the first game, and it got away from us. In game two, Reid and Drew kept us in the game, we just couldn't get anything going offensively."

GAME ONE CWU 1 – WOU 14
  • Western Oregon continued their hot hitting today with 17 hits en route to a 14-1 game-one victory.
  • The Wolves capitalized on a throwing error to score the first run of the game. In the bottom of the first, the Wildcats tied it when Kyle Rodriguez reached on an error that scored Austin Ohland.
  • Jacob Maiben helped the Wolves regain the lead by hitting an RBI single to right center.
  • In the fourth inning, Justyn Herzog scored AJ Cortese on a ground out to second base. Levi Cummings hit an RBI double down the left field line and gave the Wolves the 4-1 lead going into the fifth inning.
  • Western Oregon scored seven runs in the fifth inning to extend their lead to ten and coast to the victory.
HITTING PITCHING
  • Brayde Hirai got the start and worked through four innings. Beau Kearsey came in and recorded an out before Nolan Milliman entered and pitched three innings. Milliman faced 13 batters and recorded four strikeouts. Colten Anardi recorded the final two outs of the game for Central Washington.
GAME TWO CWU 2 – WOU 5
  • Derek Maiben hit an RBI single up the middle to put Western Oregon on the board in the bottom of the first.
  • The Wolves tacked on three more runs in the third inning. Curran Mitzel laced an RBI double to right field that scored two runs. Derek Maiben scored on a wild pitch to put Western Oregon up 4-0 going into the fourth inning.
  • Travis Helm and Ben Leid started off the fourth inning with back-to-back singles for the Wildcats. Austin Ohland came up and drew a walk. With two outs and the bases loaded, Brady Hinkle hit an RBI single to right field that scored Helm and Leid and cut the deficit to two.
  • AJ Cortese launched a homer to left field and extended the Wolves' lead back to three.
  • Devin Bell threw the final inning and helped Western Oregon secure the 5-2 victory and the series sweep.
HITTING PITCHING
  • Reid Rasmussen got the start for the Wildcats and threw 3.1 innings. Drew Richardson came in to pitch in the fourth inning. Richardson worked 2.2 innings and struck out four batters.
UP NEXT
  • The Wildcats will refocus and regroup for their final home series of the season. Central Washington (15-26, 10-14 GNAC) squares off with Northwest Nazarene (20-22, 14-10 GNAC) starting Friday, April 21st at noon.
