Wildcats Down Warriors in Final Home Game of the Season

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington baseball team (20-26, 14-14 GNAC) increased their winning streak to five games with a 7-5 victory over Lewis-Clark State (26-13) Wednesday afternoon from the CWU Baseball Field.
 
SCORING:
 
  • The Warriors struck first in the top of the first when Jakob Marque singled to right field which allowed Dominic Signorelli and Nick Seamons to score for the early 0-2 lead.
  • Baba Varner Jr. helped the Wildcats get on the board in the bottom of the third when he doubled to left center allowing Trevor Tripoli to slash the Warrior lead to 1-2.
  • Travis Helm then doubled to center field which brought home Charlie Larson and Varner Jr. making it a 3-2 game in favor of CWU.
  • Ben Leid singled to left field which allowed Helm to make his way home making it a 4-2 game.
  • The Warriors would respond in the top of the fourth when Leo Rivera doubled to left center bringing Sam Olsson home making it a 4-3 lead for CWU.
  • The Warriors then erased the Wildcat lead when Carter Booth singled to left field and the error on the throw from the left fielder allowed Rivera to tie the game at four apiece.
  • The Wildcats weren't having it as Varner Jr. sacrificed himself to bring Tripoli home giving the Wildcats the 5-4 advantage in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Ben Lead doubled down in the fourth by doubling to right field bringing Helm home making it a 6-4 game for CWU.
  • The Warriors would respond in the top of the fifth as Marque doubled to right center bringing Signorelli home putting the score at 6-5 CWU.
  • The Wildcats nabbed the last score when Larson sacrificed himself to allow Sam Lauderdale to score putting the final score at 7-5 CWU.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Beau Kearsey started the game for CWU, going two innings and allowing five hits, two runs, and two earned runs while getting one strikeout against 10 batters.
  • Gabe Bustamante pitched the following two innings allowing five hits, two runs, and one earned run against 11 batters.
  • Nick Lindholm pitched the following inning allowing two hits, one run, one earned run, and one walk while getting one strikeout against six batters.
  • Nolan Murphy pitched the next inning allowing one walk against three batters.
  • Colton Anardi saw some action for an inning as he one, two, three'd the Warriors in the seventh inning.
  • Aaron Robertson received the save, pitching the final two innings and allowing only two hits against seven batters.
  • The Warriors saw Jantzen Luca start and go two innings allowing four hits, four runs, four earned runs, and two walks while getting two strikeouts against 12 batters.
  • Joe Ball went 1.2 innings and allowed three hits, one run, and one earned run but got one strikeout against eight batters.
  • Jake Green pitched 0.2 innings and allowed four hits, two runs, two earned runs, and one walk against seven batters.
  • Jace Hansen came in to pitch 1.2 innings and got two strikeouts against five batters.
  • Trevin Hope pitched the eighth inning and got one strikeout against four batters.
  • Cameron Smith closed the game allowing one hit but getting one strikeout against five batters.
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats finished with 12 hits on the day, led by Leid and Tripoli each with three.
  • Helm finished with two hits while Kyle Rodriguez, Jake Felton, Varner Jr., and Lauderdale all recorded one hit apiece.
  • The Warriors finished with 14 hits as six different batters finished with two hits for LC-State.

  • The Wildcats will have a week to prepare for their season finale against the Montana State Billings Yellow Jackets (20-20, 11-11 GNAC). The Wildcats travel to Billings, Mont. for a four-game series starting Thursday, May 4th at 12:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. The series wraps up on Friday, May 5th at 11:00 a.m. PST.
