BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Central Washington women's soccer team (1-8-4, 0-7-3 GNAC) suffered a shutout defeat on Saturday afternoon against Western Washington University (9-2-4, 8-0-2 GNAC).
FIRST HALF
Kyrsten McGuffey gave the Vikings the lead in the 15
th minute, slotting the ball in the top right corner off an assist from Halle Noel. Moments later, in the 21
st minute WWU doubled their lead, as Clair Potter rifled a shot past the keeper off of an assist from Halle Noel and Jane Hmura. CWU was outshot 12 to four and could not capitalize on the limited offensive opportunities. In the 29
th minute,
Brenna Hart rifled a shot on goal, but goalkeeper Abigail Trengove was there to make the save. In the 35
th minute,
Jordan Bartlow had a shot on goal, but ultimately could not beat the keeper.
SECOND HALF
In the 55
th minute, Ashley Nguyen extended the lead for WWU as she slotted the ball in the bottom right corner of the net on an assist from Emily Holdridge. In the 67
th minute, Olivia Connell got on the score sheet as she headed the ball in the back of the net off a cross from teammate Emily Rice. In the 56
th minute,
Peyton Wilson received a yellow card for a foul in the defensive half. In the 78
th minute,
Brenna Hart received a yellow card for a bad foul. Seconds later,
Casey Park rifled a shot on goal, but Grace Wales was there to make the crucial save. Western Washington outshot the 'Cats nine to six.
