NCAA DII Cross Country Championships
QUOTING HEAD COACH JONATHAN HILL
"Johan and Ramon were outstanding today and battled hard on a tough course, easily the most difficult atmosphere we've seen all year. Johan's experience was beneficial, even as he found himself far back early on, he fought and chipped away at his goal of achieving All-American again. Ramon has been feeling a bit under the weather for the past week, so getting him to the line in his best form was our priority. Ramon battled tough and never gave up, demonstrating values of toughness and grit we celebrate."
"This was Johan's last cross country meet as a Wildcat. We must celebrate this man all he's done for our program taking us to levels we've never been before and showing others how its done. He's not done as a Wildcat, but it's never a bad time to demonstrate gratitude for one of our all-times greats."
QUOTING ASSISTANT COACH MATT LAYTEN
"Proud of our fight today! The course was slushy from the rain over the past week, but our guys battled the whole day despite the slower course and slippery footing. It's not about running the fastest time but gauging how to best find your optimal position on the course that you are given on a championship day! Johan found himself a little further back than we had hoped in the first half of the race, but he fought his way into another All-American honor on a very gritty day! Well deserved for this young warrior in his last collegiate cross-country race! Ramon has shown his drive and character over this past week fighting through illness and still making a push through the field today, just a little outside our goal of an All-American slot in his first year with us! It won't be long before we see him back on the national stage doing big things! Love seeing that fight from our guys as we continue building our program!".
