Wildcats Win 7-5, Split Series With Warriors

TURLOCK, California. – Central Washington Baseball picked up a close, 7-5 win over Stanislaus State on Sunday in the final game of the series. The 'Cats won games three and four to earn the series split.

"We played another complete game today and had no errors. I am proud of the guys for bouncing back and earning the series split. Logan had a great outing. He did a really good job going deep in the game and pounded the strike zone. We strung together good at bats. I told the guys to hunt fastballs down, which helped us find success at the plate today."

SCORING
  • Jake Madson's double down the right field line scored a run for the 'Cats in the second inning. Next up, "Baba" Varner Jr. hit a single to second base that scored Noah Juarez. In the bottom of the second, Ryan Leonesio hit a home run over the left field wall which brought the Warriors within one.
  • The crimson and black had a great third inning. Juarez hammered a single to right that drove in two runs. Then, hit his first home run as a Wildcat, bombing one over the fence in left field. Madson's homer put Central Washington up 6-1.
  • In the fourth inning, Jacob Baker hit another homer for the Warriors sending the ball over the fence in left center field.
  • A fielding error in the fifth allowed Brady Hinkle to score the 'Cats seventh run.
  • The Warriors fought back, plating two runs in the eighth. In the last frame, Central Washington's Daniel Charron forced three fly outs to end the game.
  • Central Washington won game four 7-5 and split the series with Stanislaus State
HITTING
  • Jake Madson and Noah Juarez had great games for the 'Cats. Madson hit his first home run as a Wildcat and went 2-4 with a double and three RBIs. Juarez hit 2-5 and drove in two runs.
  • Andrew Sharp was 3-4 at the plate and scored a run. Jake Felton hit 2-4 on the day for the Wildcats.
  • Alex Solis had the best day at the plate for Stanislaus State, going 3-5 with a double.
PITCHING
  • Aaron Robertson got the start for the 'Cats. He threw the first two innings and recorded a strikeout.
  • Logan Pierce came in for the third inning and got the win. Pierce pitched five and a third innings and fanned one batter.
  • Daniel Charron worked the eighth and ninth for the 'Cats. Charron threw two scoreless innings and struck out one batter to earn his first save of the season.
  • Noah Chelberg started for Stanislaus State. He worked three innings, had two strikeouts, and allowed six runs. After Chelberg, the Warriors used five other pitchers.
ON DECK
  • Central Washington remains on the road next week for two doubleheaders. The first is on Saturday against George Fox at 11:00 a.m. On Sunday, it's a battle of the Wildcats when Central Washington plays Linfield at noon.
