Wildcats Split with Wolves in Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Central Washington University baseball team took a day one split in the four-game series at Western Oregon Friday afternoon.

GAME 1

GAME 1
 
SCORING:
 
  • Andrew Sharp started things off early in the first inning doubling to center field to score Baba Varner Jr. and make it 1-0 'Cats.
  • Austin Ohland in the top of the third made it 2-0 Central with a single to center field to score Marcus Manzardo.
  • The Wolves would strike in the bottom of the sixth as Zach Valdez would score on a throwing error by the first baseman to cut the crimson and black lead to 2-1.
  • In the top of the eighth Ben Leid would nail a triple to left center to score Jake Felton and make it 3-1 'Cats.
  • Jake Madson would score Felton later in the eighth with a bunt single to score Leid and increase the CWU lead to 4-1.
  • In the bottom of the eighth, Justyn Herzog would single to right field to score Kyle Parkman to make it 4-2.
  • Still in the eighth, Collin Irwin would sacrifice himself to score Owen Bischoff which was followed by a single from Emiliano Alarcon to score Herzog and tie things up at four apiece.
  • In the top of the 11th inning, Ohland would nab two more RBI with a single up the middle to score Varner Jr. and Manzardo to make it 6-4 Wildcats.
  • Bischoff would single through the left side to score John Oleson followed by Herzog singling to score Parkman to tie it up at six apiece.
  • A throwing error by the catcher would score Herzog and seal the win for the Wolves 7-6.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Alex Brady pitched the first seven innings for the Wildcats allowing six hits and four runs two of which were earned while striking out six against 26 batters.
  • Beau Kearsey relieved Brady pitching three innings allowing three hits and striking out one against 12 batters.
  • Drew Richardson pitched the final 0.2 innings allowing four hits and three runs one of which was earned against six batters.
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats finished with 15 hits in the game, led by Varner Jr. with four.
  • Manzardo recorded three hits while Ohland and Leid each added two.
  • Brady Hinkle, Sharp, Felton, and Madson all recorded one hit apiece.
  • Ohland finished with three RBI while Sharp, Ledi, and Madson all added one RBI.
  • Ohland drew two walks while Manzardo and Noah Juarez each recorded one walk.
 
GAME 2
 
SCORING:
 
  • Curran Mitzel put the Wolves on the board in the first innings singling through the right side to score Alarcon and make it 1-0 WOU.
  • Hinkle would respond in the top of the second singling to right center to score Felton and tie things up at one apiece.
  • The Wolves would retake the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Bischoff scored on a throwing error by the catcher to make it 2-1 WOU.
  • Ohland did his normal heroics to steal the lead for the Wildcats singling through the left side to score Kellen Berg and Max Bledy to make it 3-2 Wildcats in the top of the seventh.
  • Still in the seventh, Sharp would single up the middle to score Varner Jr. and make it a 4-2 lead for the crimson and black.
  • WOU would make things interesting in the bottom of the seventh when Bishoff scored on an error by the left fielder to make it 4-3 CWU.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Jonathan Garza II started the game for the Wildcats pitching 6.1 innings allowing three hits, two runs one of which was earned, and one walk while striking out nine against 24 batters.
  • Nolan Milliman allowed one run and one walk.
  • Aaron Robertson wrapped up the game for the final 0.2 innings facing two batters.
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats finished with nine hits led by Ohland and Felton each with two.
  • Manzardo, Sharp, Hinkle, Juarez, and Madson each recorded one hit apiece.
  • Ohland recorded two RBI while Sharp and Hinkle each had one RBI.
  • Varner Jr. had the sole walk for the Wildcats.
 
UP NEXT:
 
  • The Wildcats and Wolves will be back in action tomorrow to conclude their four-game series with first pitch set for noon and game two set to start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
