Jonathan Garza II Throws a No-Hitter as Wildcats Sweep Day One In Lacey

LACEY, Wash.- The Central Washington University baseball team would head to Lacey to take on the Saint Martin's Saints Saturday seeing the Wildcats win game one in extra innings by a score of 5-4 and Jonathan Garza II would throw a no-hitter in game two as the Wildcats would win 11-0. Ryan McCarthy would have himself a day at the plate going 5-8 with 6 RBI's across both games.

"Great team wins today by our guys. They did a good job of grinding out game one and Garza was awesome in game two. Looking to keep it going as we finish out the series tomorrow."  
 
Game 1:CWU-5  SMU-4 (10 Innings)
The Wildcats would pick up the win in the 10th when Jake Madson would score Travis Helm on an RBI single through the left side. Alex Brady would get the nod in game one for the Wildcats and would throw 5.0 innings allowing 1 run off of 3 hits while striking out 6 batters. Ryan McCarthy would finish game one 3-4 at the plate while driving in an RBI. 
Scoring:
  • Andrew Sharp would get things started in the first when he would score Ben Leid and Marcus Manzardo on a 2 RBI double to center, giving CWU the lead 2-0. 
  • McCarthy would score Sharp on an RBI single down the right field line to extend the lead 3-0. 
  • The Saints would add one in the bottom of the first when they would double down the right field line to make it 3-1. 
  • Jake Felton would hit a sac fly to center in the fifth to score Leid, extending CWU's lead 4-1. 
  • SMU would add one in the sixth off an RBI double down the left field line to make it 4-2. 
  • The Saints would close the gap with a couple of unearned runs in the seventh and eight to tie it at 4-4. 
  • Madson would score Helm on an RBI single through the left side to give the Wildcats the lead and win. 
Hitting:
  • The Wildcats would finish game one with 5 runs off 10 hits in the contest, seeing McCarthy go 3-4 at the plate and Sharp 2-5 with 2 RBI's. 
  • The Saints would get 4 runs off 6 hits being led by Mark Stweard who went 2-4 with an RBI. 
 
Pitching:
  • Alex Brady would get the nod in game one and Nolan Milliman would get the win. Brady would strike out 6 in 5.0 IP and be relieved by Aaron Robertson who would pitch 2.0 innings in relief. Milliman would come in and pitch 3.0 innings for CWU allowing 1 hit and striking out three batters.
  • Cole Hatton would start the game for the Saints allowing 3 runs off 2 hits in 4.0 IP. Isaiah Mayfield would pitch 3.0 innings in relief allowing 1 run off 3 hits. Nikki Scott would get the loss in 3.0 IP allowing 1 run off 5 hits in relief. 
 
Game 2: CWU- 11 SMU-0 
Garza would no-hit the Saints in game two pitching 7.0 innings and striking out 6 batters. The Wildcats would score 11 runs highlighted by Ben Leid finishing 4-5, Andrew Sharp finishing 3-4 with 4 RBI's, and Ryan McCarthy having 5 RBI's with 2 doubles.  
Scoring:
  • McCarthy would score three runners on a 3 RBI double in the top of the third to make it 3-0.  
  • Andrew Sharp would add a 3 RBI double of his own in the top of the fourth inning to make it 6-0. 
  • The Wildcats would add another four runs in the fifth, Sharp would get it started on an RBI through the right side scoring one, Felton would add another on a single up the middle, and McCarthy would add another 2 RBI on a double. 10-0.
  • Central would pick up their final run on an RBI double by Baba scoring Manzardo in the sixth to make it 11-0. 
 
Hitting:
  • The Wildcats would have themselves a day at the plate having 11 runs off 18 hits in game two. Austin Ohlandwould finish 2-3 at the plate scoring 3 runs, Jake Felton would finish 3-5 with an RBI, and Kevin "Baba" Varner Jr. would finish with a double and RBI for CWU. 
  • The Saints had 0 hits in the game.  
 
Pitching:
  • Jonathan Garza II would pitch a complete game no-hitter for the Wildcats in game two, allowing 4 walks and 1 hit by pitch, Garza would strike out 6 and move to 2-2 on the season with the win. 
  • Justice Yamashita would start the game on the mound for the Saints, allowing 6 runs on 10 hits and would be tagged with the loss. Bryson Nakamoto would pitch 3.0 innings in relief allowing 5 runs on 8 hits. 
 
ON DECK
The Wildcats will stay in Lacey for games 3 and 4 of the series tomorrow with first pitches set for 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
