CLEVELAND, Ohio – Central Washington University had a GNAC-best 97 student-athletes receive the Division II Athletics Directors Association (D2 ADA) Academic Achievement Award the association announced today for the 2023-24 athletics year.
The D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award is in its 17th year and recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level. There was a second-consecutive year of a record-breaking number of student-athletes honored with 19,774 student-athletes being honored this year. 192 institutions had student-athletes honored. In total, 167,396 student-athletes have been recognized since the inception of the award.
"It is humbling to see the success of our student-athletes in the classroom," CWU Director of Athletics Dr. Dennis Francois said. "The number of D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award recipients is a testament to their commitment to their studies. Their success is also a tribute to our amazing faculty and staff, as well as our coaches who prioritize academic success. These awards are an amazing accomplishment that we can all be proud of here at Central."
CWU's 97 recipients leads the Great Northwest Athletic Conference for the fifth-straight year. Six different GNAC institutions had recipients.
In order to qualify for the Academic Achievement Award, a student-athlete must:
- Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
- Have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college work.
- Have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.
The Wildcats had the following breakdown of recipients of each NCAA Division II sport:
Baseball: 17
Cross Country/Track & Field: 14
Football: 24
Men's Basketball: 6
Soccer: 10
Softball: 11
Volleyball: 8
Women's Basketball: 7
