Wilson’s Goal Earns 1-1 Draw

ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Central Washington University (1-1-1, 0-0-0 GNAC) played a physical match on Saturday as they recorded their best result against Chico State (1-1-1, 0-0-0 CCAA) in program history.

"I was super proud of the women and their work today. They showed a lot of grit and some good moments of polish."
Lee spoke on the upcoming GNAC schedule. "Now with conference on the horizon, we are excited about how this team grows together to move the needle for the program."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Chico State got their breakthrough in the 10th minute as Caroline Souza tucked the ball in the bottom right corner. The assist came from Jiana Martin as she gave a through ball past the defenders to set her teammate up. Shortly after, in the 21st minute, Peyton Wilson converted a penalty kick for CWU as she was fouled in the box. Although the Crimson and Black were outshot 23 to seven, their goalkeeper, Leighton Menge made 10 saves throughout the match and kept CWU in the game. Chico had 11 shots on goal opposed to CWU's one but could not capitalize on their many opportunities. Martin and Pieri led the way for Chico as they each had five shots today.
FIRST HALF
Both goals came early in the first half. Menge made five saves as the Crimson and Black were outshot 14 to four. There were a combined eight fouls committed by both teams in this half which was evident to their physicality.
SECOND HALF
It was a scoreless second half in Ellensburg as Central Washington was outshot nine to three while Menge made five huge saves to keep her team in the game. Chico State was pressing and seeking their winning goal but ultimately could not find the back of the net. Chico committed seven fouls and CWU committed three fouls. Hannah Pieri was shown a yellow card in the 88th minute for a bad foul in CWU's defensive half.
UP NEXT
Your Wildcats travel to Nampa, Idaho as they will face Northwest Nazarene to open up GNAC competition. The game will take place at the Northwest Nazarene University Soccer Field at 6:00 p.m. PST on Thursday, Sept. 26th.
