Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Wildcats Fall in Final Moments to Falcons’ Last-Minute Goal

ELLENSBURG, Wash.- The Central Washington University women's soccer team (3-3-3, 1-3-2 GNAC) suffered a tough 1-0 loss at home on Saturday afternoon to Seattle Pacific University (4-3-4, 2-2-2 GNAC) at Steve Hertling Field at Tomlinson Stadium. The Falcons scored the game-winning goal in the 84th minute, when Kayla Wallace fired a shot from the edge of the box that sailed over the goalkeeper's head and into the far post.

FIRST HALF
The first half remained scoreless, with Seattle Pacific controlling much of the play and outshooting the 'Cats 8-1. Goalkeeper Danika Galbraith was called into action early, making a save in the 6th minute on a shot from Taylor Krueger. Sadie Schaefer responded with a chance in the 25th minute, but her shot sailed high over the crossbar. In the 32nd minute, Galbraith came up big again, denying a powerful effort on goal from Ashlyn Valdovinos. Galbraith finished the half with four saves to keep the match level heading into the break.

SECOND HALF
Seattle Pacific outshot Central 10-6 in the second half. In the 56th minute, Sadie Schaefer fired a shot on target, forcing a save from Landry Schoennauer. Seven minutes later, Kayla Wallace tested Galbraith with a shot on goal, which the Central keeper handled cleanly. In the 73rd minute, Casey Park unleashed a strike that again required a save from Schoennauer to keep the match level. The breakthrough came in the 84th minute, when Wallace delivered the game-winner, rifling a shot from the edge of the box that sailed over Galbraith and into the far post. Central nearly responded in the final moments, but Sydney Madison's shot in the 90th minute was saved by Schoennauer, sealing the win for the Falcons.

QUOTING HEAD COACH JOHN HAWKS
"Another great effort by our group! Credit to SPU and the program Arby has built as their pressure to force a turnover and ability to capitalize on a big moment, late in the game, proved to be the difference.

Our group is capable, and we'll find our big moments as we prepare for SFU and the 2nd half of GNAC league play…Go Cats!"
