ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University Volleyball team (16-5, 12-2 GNAC) prepares for a tough final two week in the regular season with a homestand this week as the Wildcats take on the visiting Alaska schools starting with #18 Alaska Fairbanks (20-4, 11-3 GNAC) on Thursday, Nov. 13, and then RV Alaska Anchorage (19-5, 10-4 GNAC) on Saturday, Nov. 15, for Senior Day with possible championship implications as CWU currently stands in first place in the GNAC standings.

PREVIOUSLY FOR THE 'CATS
Central enters this week on a five-game winning streak with its last defeat coming at the hands of the Nanooks on Oct. 18, in Fairbanks, Alaska. Since then, the Wildcats have defeated their opponents by way of a sweep in all but one matchup, going 15-1 in sets. Last week, the 'Cats defeated Saint Martin's in Lacey, Wash., 3-1 on Thursday, before heading to Monmouth, Ore., to sweep Western Oregon on Saturday.
CWU was led, offensively, by
Scottie Ellsworth with 26 total kills, followed by
Kaitlyn Leaverton with 23. Leaverton also recorded a season-high 12 kills on Thursday's matchup against SMU.
Kayleigh-Shay Chang kept the offense flowing with 58 assists, while she,
Mya VanderYacht, and
Kailey Willsey each recorded three service aces.
Brooklyn Parker had an impressive showing for the week–recording 38 digs for a 5.43 digs-per-set average. Parker's efforts earned her GNAC Defensive Player of the Week honors, her first of her career. At the net, Ellsworth and Willsey shared the lead with seven blocks each.
ABOUT THE #18 NANOOKS
Alaska Fairbanks has the best overall record in the GNAC at 20-4. Since last playing Central on Oct. 18, UAF has gone 4-1 which puts its conference record at 11-3 to fall into third place in the GNAC standings. Still, the Nanooks are a strong competitor in the conference's close title race coming into the final two weeks of the regular season with the top five teams still within two games of the top spot.
The Nanooks have an impeccable defense that holds opponents to an average of 10.79 kills-per-set and a .128 hitting percentage to lead the GNAC. UAF also leads the conference in digs with 1540 total for an average of 16.92 per set–led by Tessa Onaga with 417 total. Onaga leads the service line as well with 36 total aces. The Nanooks are also led, defensively, by Peri Hoshock with 102 blocks. On the offensive side, Elena Guc leads all attackers with 257 kills, while Ainsley Smith runs the offense production with 498 assists.
The Wildcats and Nanooks hit the court on Thursday, Nov. 13, with the first serve from the 'Burg scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
ABOUT THE SEAWOLVES
UAA enters this week with a 5-1 record since losing to the Wildcats on Oct. 16. Last week, the Seawolves' had a big showing–taking out #8 Simon Fraser in five sets and then defeating #14 Western Washington 3-1 to knock the Vikings out of first place in the conference as CWU took the top spot. With a 10-4 conference record, UAA is currently in fifth place in the GNAC. However, that doesn't mean the Seawolves are out of the title–just two games behind first place with four games to go.
Anchorage's net defense is strong–leading the conference in holding opponents to 1.71 blocks-per-set. The Seawolves also lead in service defense–holding aces to 1.22 per-set. This is part of Senior Libero Madison Galloway's 377 digs, followed by Senior Outside Hitter Tia Allen with 315. Allen also leads the offense with 314 kills, followed by Lee Ivakina with 308. Hannah Trotter feeds the offense with 513 assists, while Elena Hansen leads the service line with 32 aces, and Martina Riba leads at the net with 115 blocks
The Wildcats take on the Seawolves on Saturday, Nov. 15. First serve from Nicholson Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
