PORTLAND, Ore. – The Central Washington University volleyball team had six players named to the GNAC's All-Conference team including
Kailey Willsey being named Freshman of the Year, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Three Wildcats,
Scottie Ellsworth,
Ellie Marble, and Willsey, were named to the All-Conference First Team, while
Ella Bines,
Kayleigh-Shay Chang, and
Brooklyn Parker earned honorable mentions for their efforts this season, that culminated in the Wildcats claiming part of the GNAC regular season title, and the team's 13th postseason appearance in a row.
"It's a pretty cool honor to be on this list. The GNAC is stacked with talent, and so I know this was a tedious process to select this team," Head Coach
Mario Andaya said, "I am very happy for our two seniors and both captains for making the team. K-Shay is one of the best setters, so when running a 6-2, it's hard to get noticed on the stat line, but she is a difference-maker."
Willsey came into her freshman year finding a spot on the front line quickly in the Wildcats' non-conference slate–recording 25 total blocks, 30 kills, 18 digs, and two service aces. Willsey's conference performance saw her improve as the season went on–going 136-38-270 for a .363 hitting percentage, while recording 76 total blocks including 12 solo blocks. She also logged 40 digs and 12 aces. Willsey recorded a season-high 13 kill on Nov. 6 against Saint Martin's, while recording a season-high 12 blocks against Alaska Fairbanks on Oct. 18. Willsey took second in hitting percentage for GNAC this season at .346 overall, while placing sixth in blocks with 104 for an average of 1.13 per set. Willsey earned herself the title of GNAC Defensive Player of the Week after recording 17 blocks, highlighted by the 12-block performance against Alaska Fairbanks.
"To have two true freshmen on the team, both who led in statistical categories at late points in the season, is pretty rare stuff," Andaya said, "Kailey's growth in just one season is impressive. Her production on the court has been at a high level, so it's awesome that the conference coaches noticed her impact."
Ellsworth earns her third selection to the All-Conference squad after earning honorable mention in 2024 and first-team in 2023. The redshirt senior from Kent, Wash., was also selected to this year's team as a unanimous decision. Ellsworth led all the Wildcats this season in offensive production–hitting for 272 kills for an average of 2.86 kills per set, 321.5 points, and a .283 hitting percentage on 699 total attack attempts. Ellworth's also recorded 93 blocks for the second spot on the squad for an average of 0.98 blocks per set. Her .283 hitting percentage placed her at eighth place in the GNAC this season, while her 272 kills earned her 13th in the conference.
Marble received the honor for the second time in her career after being named to the 2024 honorable mention team. Marble, a junior from La Conner, Wash., placed second on the Wildcats' offense–recording 213 kills for an average of 2.22 per set, while recording 24 service aces. Marble also was a key member of the defensive line–logging 309 digs for 14th in the GNAC with 3.22 per set.
Bines earns her first All-GNAC honors after playing a strong part in the Wildcats' offense. The senior right-side hitter from Orlando, Fla., recorded 205 kills this season for an average of 2.53 kills per set and 223.5 total points. She also recorded 36 total blocks as a strong blocker on the outside. Bines recorded a season-high 20 kills on Oct. 4 against Seattle Pacific. Her efforts earned her GNAC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 6 after recording 29 total kills, 30 points, and a .511 hitting percentage.
Chang receives her first award of her career for her efforts on the Wildcats setting line. In her 96 sets played, the sophomore from Kirkland, Wash., recorded 641 total assists for an average of 6.68 assists per set. Her assists count earned her seventh in the GNAC this season. Chang also led the 'Cats on the service line–logging 28 aces. Chang set the tone early in the season by recording a season high 50 assists and four aces on Sep. 18 against Simon Fraser.
Parker earns her first honors after a strong freshman campaign. Filling the libero spot in her first year, Parker did not disappoint–logging 404 total digs for an average of 4.75 per set and a .928 reception percentage. The freshman from Allen, Texas, also performed well at the service line–recording 15 aces. Parker had a strong showing on Nov. 15–recording a season-high 34 digs against Alaska Anchorage. Parker's efforts earned her GNAC Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 10 after recording 38 total digs for an average of 5.43 digs-per-set over the course of seven sets.
The Wildcats look next to the NCAA West Regional, starting on Thursday, Dec. 4, as they take on the Simon Fraser Red Leafs in a rematch of the final regular season match.
