PORTLAND, Ore.- Two athletes from the Central Washington University track and field team,
Boogy Brown and
Ashlyn Nielsen, are receiving GNAC honors this week for their outstanding performances at the Spokane Invitational over the weekend.
QUOTING HEAD COACH JONATHAN HILL
"Boogy had a really nice fall. He's balancing being a football player/track athlete, but he does it all with a great attitude and lots of hard work and discipline. He's the leader of a strong hurdle group so he makes sure those guys bring it every day."
"Ashlyn has been improving steadily across the board. After outdoors, she set some goals for herself and went to work. It was clear in the fall she was ready to have a strong indoor season. I know she's pleased with her double PR day (and relay anchor) but is excited for faster races down the line."
ABOUT THE PERFORMANCES
Brown kicked off his season with a strong showing in the 60-meter hurdles at last week's Spokane Invitational. The Wildcat recorded a personal-best time of 8.03 seconds, missing the GNAC record of 8.01, set by Seattle Pacific's Andrew Bell last winter, by just 0.02 seconds. Brown was the top Division II finisher in the 30-athlete field, and his mark is currently tied for 11th-fastest in Division II this season.
Nielsen turned in an exceptional showing at the Spokane Invitational, posting two sprint times that rank among the GNAC's all-time top 10. She clocked a qualifying 7.57 seconds in the 60 meters to finish fourth overall, then capped the meet by winning the 200 meters in 24.37 seconds. The Wildcat now sits No. 15 nationally in the 60 meters and No. 5 nationally in the 200 meters, with her 60-meter mark ranking eighth and her 200-meter time sixth on the GNAC indoor all-time lists.
