Three Wildcat Standouts Earn All-West Region Honors

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Three Central Washington University Basketball standouts were selected to the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association All-West Region teams the association announced on Thursday.
 
The CWU Men's Basketball Team was represented by sophomore Cavin Holden who now adds to his GNAC Player of the Year and unanimous First Team All-GNAC honors this season. Holden was joined by Kye Dickson of Northwest Nazarene as the only GNAC honorees in this year's All-West Region teams after Dickson earned Second Team.
 
Holden had quite the sophomore campaign, leading the 'Cats to their second-straight NCAA Tournament with 14.8 points per game, 123 assists, and 44 steals on the season. He added 3.4 rebounds per game and five blocks and posted a 1.73 assist/turnover ratio on the season. He's shot 47.2 percent from the floor, 43.7 percent from three, and 82.4 percent at the free-throw line.
 
The Wildcat Women's Basketball Team had two representatives with Sunny Huerta tabbed to the First Team and Asher Cai named to the Second Team All-West Region. The two unanimous First Team All-GNAC honorees were joined by Emilia Long and Tori Hollingshead of Alaska Anchorage, Dyauni Boyce of Montana State Billings, and Sophia Wisotzki of Simon Fraser as representatives of the GNAC on the All-West Region Teams.
 
Huerta, the GNAC Player of the Year, had a phenomenal senior season leading the 'Cats to their second NCAA Tournament in three years. She paced the Wildcats with 18.9 points per game and 105 assists. She added 4.8 rebounds, 31 steals, and four blocks on the season. She's shooting 45.9 percent from the floor, 44.1 percent from three, and 82.7 percent from the free-throw line.
 
Cai, now earning back-to-back All-West Region honors, had a very productive junior season so far in 2024-25. She added 17.4 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game while contributing 94 assists, 10 blocks, and leading CWU with 53 steals. She's posted shooting percentages that include 44.4 percent from the floor, 38 percent from three, and 81.9 percent at the free-throw line.
 
"I'm so happy for Sunny and Asher," CWU Head Women's Basketball Coach Randi Richardson said. "They are both phenomenal talents who've come out all year with pressure and have performed at such a high level with teams game planning specifically for the both of them. They both are big pieces to our team's success with their talent, but beyond that, they are amazing individuals, great teammates, and outstanding competitors. We are so proud of both of them and the fact that they're Wildcats. I look forward to watching them compete tomorrow."
