GREENWOOD, Ind. – Two Central Washington University Football standouts have been distinguished as Academic All-American, College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced. Slade Edwards has earned his second-straight CSC Academic All-American honor after being a Second Team selection a season ago but this year moving up to First Team. Joining Edwards is Brett McCalla who earned a Second Team recognition for his first Academic All-American honor.
 
Seven members of the Academic All-American Division II Football Teams boast a perfect 4.0 GPA in their classes. The 23 members on the first team have an average GPA of 3.79, with the entire 45-man team holding a collective average GPA of 3.8.

The Division II Academic All-America program is financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist the College Sports Communicators with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2025-26 Division II Academic All-America program.
 
Edwards can now add a First Team CSC Academic All-American honor to his resume after being a Second Team All-American a season ago. He holds a 3.51 GPA in Mechanical Engineering Technology. The NCAA Division II Rimington Trophy Winner had a stellar senior season to pair with being named a First Team AFCA All-American. The Gene Upshaw Finalist, Super Region 4 Second Team, and two-time Lone Star Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year played a critical role at center for the 'Cats offensive line this season. While starting all 12 games for the crimson and black, he helped establish the 'Cats prominent offensive production this season that included 266.1 rushing yards per contest and 420.9 total yards per game this season. The offensive line as a whole was stellar, only allowing 43 total tackles for loss this season with only 10 coming as sacks.
 
McCalla is making his first appearance as on the CSC Academic All-American Team, landing on the Second Team. He has a 3.95 GPA in Sport Management. He was a First Team All-LSC Defense member and finished second on the team in tackles with 61 on the season and has four tackles for loss for a total of 10 yards to his name. He's also added two pick sixes' as the only athlete in the LSC to return two interceptions, two pass breakups, one quarterback hurry, and one fumble recovery.
