Hopper Earns Second-Straight GNAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week

PORTLAND, Ore. – Central Washington University Track & Field senior Elise Hopper earned her second-straight and third GNAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week after nabbing a new GNAC record at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. this past weekend.

"Elise had another outstanding weekend and is absolutely worthy of continued recognition," CWU Head Track & Field Coach Jonathan Hill said. "Her leg on the 4x100 was beyond significant, her 400 heat win was dominant, her 200 showed her speed and fitness, and her 4x400 leg was absolutely jaw dropping. She's definitely one of the most well rounded sprinters in GNAC history. There's still more she wants to accomplish and some big meets coming up to do it."

Hopper had a gigantic weekend in SoCal. She grabbed a new GNAC record in the 400m race with a mark of 53.04 which landed her second on the weekend. She then added a fifth-place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 23.53. She took part in two relay races that had huge outings as well. She helped the 4x400m relay race to a fifth-place finish with a time of 3:42.69. She also helped the 4x100m relay to an impressive fourth-place finish with a time of 45.83, helping the 'Cats 4x100m relay team earn the best NCAA Division II time out of 13 D2 teams participating.

Hopper and the 'Cats stay in the state borders this week as they head east to Pullman, Wash. to participate in the WSU Cougar Classic on Friday, April 24 from the Mooberry Track & Field Complex.
