Box Score

LACEY (Nov. 7) -- Freshman Carson McKole (Oak Harbor) scored a pair of second-half goals, but Central Washington surrendered the game-winning goal with less then two minutes left in the first overtime period in falling, 3-2, to host Saint Martin's in the 2009 women's soccer finale for both teams on Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats missed out on a chance for their second straight record of .500 or above, finishing 8-10-1 overall and 5-6-1 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. Saint Martin's ends its season with a 12-7-0 overall record (8-4-0 GNAC).

McKole scored both of Central's tallies after the halftime intermission, finding the back of the net at the 56th and 66th minutes. She took an assist from junior Gwenna Carie (Leavenworth/Cascade HS) for her first goal, beating Saint Martin's keeper Ashley Engel from 12 yards out to cut it to a 2-1 deficit at the time. She then knotted the score just under 10 minutes later off a pass from freshman Estelle Hage (Seattle/Mount Rainier HS), caroming her shot off a Saints defender and into the goal.

Saint Martin's scored its first two goals in the opening half, with Kaycie Donatelli and Jenny Baker each tallying in the first 45 minutes. Donatelli would later score the game-winner with 1:58 left in the first overtime period, beating Central's Amber Easterbrook (Kent/Kentwood HS) from five yards out to give the Saints the victory and spoil the Wildcats' bid for a .500 season.

In a very evenly-matched contests, each team finished with 13 shot attempts. Nine of Saint Martin's tries made it on goal against Easterbrook, who made five saves in her final collegiate appearance. Engel made three stops in five shots on goal for Saint Martin's.

Freshman Kelsy Villegas (Graham/Graham-Kapowsin HS) was credited with four shots for Central, while all three of McKole's attempts made it on goal.
