BURNABY, B.C. (Oct. 23) -- Central Washington University goalkeeper Kori Butterfield (Duvall/Cedarcrest HS) recorded eight saves for the women's soccer team, but a second half flurry by Simon Fraser University resulted in a 3-0 loss for the Wildcats on Saturday afternoon in Burnaby, British Columbia.

With the loss the Wildcats fall to 4-9-1, 4-6-1 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. Simon Fraser improved its record to 7-4-2, 6-3-2 in the GNAC.  The two teams split the season series at one win apiece, as the Wildcats defeated the Clan 2-1 on Sept. 30 in Ellensburg.

The Clan outshot Central 7-2 in the first half and had a 4-1 corner kick advantage, but Butterfield halted the Clan attack recording four of her eight saves in the opening period, securing a 0-0 halftime score.

Simon Fraser opened the second half with six shots on goal in the first 15 minutes of action. Butterfield was able to save the first four attempts on goal, but the final two found the Wildcat net and gave the Clan a 2-0 advantage at the 59:35 mark.

Senior C.J. Balstad (Port Orchard/South Kitsap HS) relieved Butterfield in the 64th minute, but five minutes later the Clan added to their lead as Marissa Di Lorenzo found a loose ball in front of the Wildcat net and scored to give Simon Fraser a 3-0 lead.

For the game, the Wildcats were outshot 16-2, including an 11-1 margin on goal.

The Wildcats return to Ellensburg to play their final home match of the season on Thursday Oct. 28 against Saint Martin's University at 3 p.m. on the CWU Soccer Field.
