SEATTLE (Nov. 6) -- Central Washington University junior
Amy Pate (Federal Way /Thomas Jefferson HS) scored her third goal of the 2010 season in a 4-1 loss against nationally-ranked Seattle Pacific University Saturday afternoon in Seattle.
The Wildcats ended the 2010 season with a 4-12-2 record, 4-9-1 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The 14th-ranked Falcons also concluded their regular season, improving their record to 15-1-2, 12-1-1 in the GNAC.
Seattle Pacific struck first, scoring in the 21st minute as Kellie Zakrzewski scored her 11th goal of the season. The Falcons would add to their advantage scoring another goal with just 46 seconds left in the first half to give them a 2-0 halftime lead.
SPU padded its lead with another goal just under six minutes into the second half, increasing the lead to 3-0.
The Wildcats answered back in the 58th minute when senior
Ellie Eckroth's (Auburn /Auburn Mountainview HS) shot on goal was blocked by a Falcon defender and Pate corralled the deflection to score from 12 yards out, narrowing the score to 3-1.
Pate has now scored a goal in three consecutive matches against Seattle Pacific dating back to last season. In her three-year career, she has amassed eight goals, four of which have come against the Falcons.
The Falcons added an insurance goal late in the second half to walk away with the final 4-1 victory.
The game marked the end of the season for Central, and the careers of five Wildcat players. Seniors
Kaycie Hutchins (Port Orchard/Bellarmine Prep),
Amanda Biggs (Carnation/Cedarcrest HS),
Annie Weisbeck (Spokane/Central Valley HS),
C.J. Balstad (Port Orchard/South Kitsap HS), and Eckroth all played in their final game for the Wildcats.
"This was a sad ending for our seniors," said CWU head coach
Michael Farrand. "This was a great senior group, and I am sad to see these girls go."
Biggs, Eckroth, and Hutchins are all in the top ten in career games played at Central. Individually, Hutchins finished her career as the Wildcats' all-time assist leader with 25.
