KEIZER, Ore. (May 1) -- Junior Kelly Gau (Woodinville) had a go-ahead three-run home run in the sixth inning of game one, and the Central Washington University baseball team took a 5-5 tie into the bottom of the seventh inning of game two, but the Wildcats' woes continued with 9-7 and 6-5 losses to Western Oregon University in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action on Saturday at Volcanoes Stadium.

The Wildcats are now 11-33 overall and 5-21 in GNAC play, while Western Oregon wrapped up its ninth straight GNAC title by improving to 29-14 overall and 23-3 in the conference.

Gau drove in a combined seven runs in the two games, finishing with four RBI in the opener and three more in the nightcap. He had a RBI single in addition to his three-run homer in game one, then had a two-run single as part of Central's three-run first inning in game two.

Senior Kevin Schneider (Spokane/Mead HS) had two hits in the second game, with both going for extra bases. The third baseman delivered a double and his fifth home run of the season, scoring a pair of runs.

On the mound, the Wildcats relied on the right arms of junior Jake Millbauer (Kennewick/Kamiakin HS) and senior Kevin Walkenhauer (Yakima/West Valley HS) to do most of the work in Saturday's doubleheader. Millbauer (109 pitches) allowed 16 hits but only five earned runs in 6 1/3 innings of the opener before being relieved by junior Palmer Brown (Sacramento, Calif./Rio Americano HS), while Walkenhauer threw a complete game of 6 1/3 innings (97 pitches) in game two.

The two teams will conclude their season series with a doubleheader on Sunday on the WOU campus in Monmouth, with the opening game of that twinbill scheduled for a noon start.
