MONMOUTH, Ore. (May 2) -- Senior Jake Hammons (Snohomish) had three hits and game one and pitched five scoreless innings in game two, but the Central Washington University baseball team suffered two more losses to Western Oregon University on Sunday, falling 4-0 and 3-2.

The Wildcats are now 11-35 overall and 5-23 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. Western Oregon, which had secured its ninth straight GNAC championship on Saturday, has won 20 straight conference games and is now 31-14 overall and 25-3 in the GNAC.

Hammons accounted for half of Central's six hits in the nine-inning opener against Jacob Pettit, and the Wildcats managed a pair of doubles against the Wolves' southpaw but were unable to score. Senior Kevin Walkenhauer (Yakima/West Valley HS) and sophomore Brett Bielec (Port Orchard/North Mason HS) both had two-base hits in the contest.

In game two, Hammons went the distance on the mound and was staked to a 2-0 lead after 3 1/2 innings of play. Central took the lead on a RBI single by senior Evan Churlin (Monroe) in the third inning, and added to the lead with junior Kris Henderson's (Liberty Lake/Central Valley HS) RBI double in the fourth. However, the Wildcats managed just two hits the rest of the way in the seven-inning contest (following Henderson's double).

Western Oregon caught up to the Wildcats on Daniel Dillard's 15th home run of the season -- a two-run blast -- in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Wolves then won the game in the bottom of the seventh after a two-out error put Cesar Lopez on base, a balk advanced him to second, and then Jason Moseby delivered a game-winning RBI single.

The Wildcats had seven hits in game two, led by two from freshman catcher Marcus Evans (Kent/Kentlake HS). Five other players had one hit each for CWU, which finished with a 5-21 record away from home this season.

Central Washington will conclude the 2010 campaign next weekend with a pair of home doubleheaders against Montana State University Billings on Friday (May 7) and Saturday (May 8) at the CWU Baseball Field.
