ELLENSBURG (Oct. 13) -- Central Washington University junior Carson McKole (Oak Harbor) scored the game-winning goal at the 77th minute, and freshman goalkeeper Kayla Lipston (Federal Way/Decatur HS) recorded her first career victory with seven saves in a 2-1 women's soccer win over archrival Western Washington University on Thursday afternoon at the CWU Soccer Field.

With the win, the Wildcats improved to 6-3-3 on the season and 5-2-1 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, earning their first home victory over Western Washington since 2003. The win also snapped eight-game winless streak against the Vikings dating back to 2007, and moves the Wildcats into third place in the GNAC standings, one point ahead of WWU (6-4-2, 5-3-0 GNAC).

With the game tied at 1-1, freshman midfielder Danielle Brandli (Bellevue/Interlake HS) beat the Viking defense down the left side of the field and sent a crossing pass that landed in the lap of McKole, who scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season to give the Wildcats the final 2-1 advantage in the 77th minute.

Central midfielder Alex Jensen (Yakima/West Valley HS) scored the opening goal of the match in the 17th minute when teammate Brittany Franks (Yakima/West Valley HS) found her in front of the WWU goal, where Jensen scored from five yards out. The goal was Jensen's first of the season and the second of her career.

Western Washington scored its lone goal off a corner kick that was batted back and forth between players on each team before Viking midfielder Brina Sych found the back of the Wildcat net.  Every other shot attempt on goal by WWU was corralled by Lipston, who tied a career-high for saves in just her second collegiate start.

Central Washington will play the last game of its current five-game home stand on Saturday (Oct. 15) against Simon Fraser University at 11 a.m.
