CWU Women's Soccer Blanked 3-0 by MSU Billings

Wildcats Fall to Third Place in GNAC Standings

Box Score

BILLINGS, Mont. (Oct. 27) -- The Central Washington University women's soccer team surrendered three goals and its second-place standing in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings with a 3-0 defeat against Montana State Billings on Thursday afternoon in Billings, Mont.

Central (8-4-4, 7-3-2 GNAC) came into the match in second place in the conference standings, one point ahead of MSUB. With Thursday's loss, the Wildcats now drop to third place in the GNAC, two points behind the Yellowjackets (10-2-4, 7-1-4 GNAC).

“I am disappointed,” CWU head coach Michael Farrand said. “We had a chance to do something really special; we had a shot at postseason play, and we missed it.”

The Wildcats went into halftime down 2-0, with both goals due to defensive miscues. The Yellowjackets' first tally came in the 29th minute on an own goal by the Wildcats, when defender Allie Washburn (Bremerton/Central Kitsap HS) tried to defend a cross by MSU Billings, and the ball ended up deflecting off her body and into the Wildcat goal.

Five minutes later, CWU freshman goalkeeper Kayla Lipston (Federal Way/Decatur HS) saved a shot by MSUB, and as she tried to pass the ball to a teammate, Yellowjacket forward Jaucelyn Richter intercepted the pass and scored on the Wildcat goal.

“We didn't play all that well in the first half,” Farrand added, “but besides the first few minutes of the second half, we regrouped and played decent soccer.”

Just three minutes and 29 seconds into the second half, MSU Billings added its third and final goal on a header by Adrienne Biglow off a MSUB corner kick.

Seniors Serena Tomaso (Enumclaw) and Amy Pate (Federal Way/Thomas Jefferson HS) each had two shots for the Wildcats, who were outshot by the Yellowjackets 12-7.

Central Washington will look to rebound this Saturday (Oct. 29) as the Wildcats travel to Nampa, Idaho, to play Northwest Nazarene at noon Mountain Daylight Time.
