Box Score

YAKIMA (Oct. 4) -- The Central Washington University women's soccer team held rival Seattle Pacific University scoreless through 90 minutes of regulation, but the Wildcats were unable to find the go-ahead goal in suffering a 1-0 overtime loss to the Falcons on Thursday afternoon at the West Valley High School Soccer Field.

The Wildcats dropped their third straight contest, falling to 3-6-2 overall and 2-4-1 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. SPU improved to 7-2-2 overall and 4-1-2 in conference action.

The game, which was moved to Yakima midday Thursday due to air quality concerns throughout the day in Ellensburg, was played on the campus of Cottonwood Elementary School and at the home field of West Valley High School. CWU has still played just one of its first 11 games on its own field -- a Sept. 8 non-conference match versus Northwest University.

Thursday's match was a closely-contested affair, with CWU spending quite a bit of the opening half in the Falcons' defensive end of the field. The Wildcats totaled nine shots in the first 45 minutes, although just one of those -- a try by senior CARSON MCKOLE (Oak Harbor) in the opening minute -- made it on goal. Meanwhile, sophomore goalkeeper KAYLA LIPSTON (Federal Way/Decatur HS) made three of her eight saves prior to halftime.

The offensive tables turned to start the second half, though, as Seattle Pacific registered five shots in the first seven minutes of the period, with two of those on goal. CWU had consecutive corner kick opportunities in the 61st minute, but the Wildcats managed just five shots in the second half with their final on-goal attempt coming at the 79th minute from sophomore DANIELLE BRANDLI (Bellevue/Interlake HS). In fact, Brandli's shot was the last of the contest for the Crimson and Black.

Seattle Pacific had four shot attempts in the final 10 minutes of regulation, and was the aggressor in overtime with the only two shots of the extra period. The second of those proved to be the game-winning goal from senior Megan Lindsay, who took a pass from Ali Martin and beat Lipston in a 1-versus-1 situation after a Wildcat turnover in its defensive end of the field.

CWU finishewd the game being outshot, 19-14, but with a 5-4 edge in corner kicks. Three different players -- McKole, KELSY VILLEGAS (Graham/Graham-Kapowsin HS), and SAVANNA MOOREHOUSE (Bonney Lake) -- had three shots apiece.

SPU was led by Lindsay, who had seven total shots including three on goal. Natalie Harold recorded her second shutout of the season in goal for the Falcons, making three saves.

CWU is scheduled to host Western Washington University this Sunday (Oct. 7) at noon at the CWU Soccer Field in Ellensburg.
