ELLENSBURG (Apr. 14) -- The Central Washington University baseball team combined for 28 runs and 30 hits in its doubleheader sweep of Corban University on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Warriors 8-2 and 20-3.

The Wildcats won the four-game series, three games to one, and improved to 15-19 on the season. Corban is now 22-17 on the year.

The 20 runs scored by CWU in game two is a season-high and is the most since the Wildcats defeated Corban by a 22-2 mark exactly one year ago.

The Wildcats led 10-3 going into the bottom of the fifth inning in game two, and the offense erupted to score 10 runs in the frame -- on six hits -- to take a commanding 20-3 lead.

Eight of the Wildcats' nine starters in game two had at least two hits with seniors DERRICK WEBB (Ephrata) and BRETT BIELEC (Port Orchard/North Mason HS) each going 3 for 3. Webb tied a career-high with five RBI in the second game, two of which came on a two-run homerun in the first inning. Junior BRETT GRAY (Ephrata) also had hit a career mark in RBI, driving in four runs in the night cap and was 2 for 4 at the plate.

Junior JASON LOTZER (Lynnwood) pitched the first six innings of game two for the Wildcats and gave up eight hits and three runs while striking out 4 to earn his third win of the season (3-2).

Senior BRANDON WANG (Mill Creek/Jackson HS) was 3 for 3 in the first game of the day, and drove in three runs, and junior KYLE SANI (Kennewick/Southridge HS) hit his fifth home run of the season, a two-run blast in the first inning. Central Washington built a 8-1 lead after four innings, and senior pitcher KYLE LONG (Edmonds/Edmonds-Woodway HS) held the Warrior offense in check, throwing his third complete game of the season including his first of the nine-inning variety. Long gave up just six hits and did not walk a batter in the game.

Bielec had a productive day for the Wildcats, going a combined 5 for 8 with four RBI and seven runs scored, including five runs scored in game two.

Corban University shortstop Marc Gallegos was 4 for 8 on the day, including 3 for 4 in game two when he hit doubles in his first three at-bats and scored two runs.

Central Washington will return to the road for its next two series, beginning with a four-game set at Saint Martin's University on Saturday and Sunday (Apr. 21-22).
