LACEY (Apr. 21) -- Central Washington University senior BRADY KINCANNON (Federal Way/Decatur HS) was 5 for 9 with three RBI in the baseball team's doubleheader with Saint Martin's University on Saturday afternoon, but the Wildcats squandered leads in both games, falling 8-7 and 12-10 to the Saints. The opener went 10 innings.

With the losses, CWU fell to 15-21 and 7-11 mark in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play, while the Saints improved to 13-25 and 9-11 in the GNAC, extending its home win streak in the head-to-head series to six games.

Central Washington held a 7-5 lead heading into the bottom half of the seventh inning of game one, but the Saints scored two runs in the inning to tie the game and force extra innings. The Wildcats went down in order in the top of the 10th inning, and the Saints scored on a walk-off single in the bottom half to claim the victory in the opener.

The Wildcats had plenty of chances to score more runs in the contest as they left a season-high 15 runners on base.

Kincannon earned the majority of his hits in the opener, going 4 for 6 with two RBI. Seniors DERRICK WEBB (Ephrata) and BRANDON WANG (Mill Creek/Jackson HS) were the only other Wildcats with multiple hits, going 3 for 5 and 2 for 4, respectively, and each drove in one run.

Saint Martin's third baseman Bobby Twedt was a perfect 6 for 6 with three RBI, tying a single-game conference record for hits in a GNAC contest -- a mark he now shares with former Wildcat Jake Burns, who accomplished the feat back in 2002.

CWU rallied early in game two to take a 7-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings, but that lead was short-lived as the Saints scored all 12 of their runs in between the third and fifth innings to take a 12-7 advantage. Central Washington cut into the deficit, scoring one run in the sixth and two in the seventh, and the Wildcats had the tying runs on base in the final frame but were unable to move them around to score.

Senior DAVID LEID (Carson City, Nev./Carson HS), sophomore ETHAN STERKEL (Ellensburg), and junior JIMMY RYERSON (Seattle/Roosevelt HS) each were 2 for 4 in game two with Leid driving in two runs while Ryerson and Sterkel each had one. Junior KYLE SANI (Kennewick/Southridge HS), who had his nine-game hit streak come to an end in game one, was 2 for 5 in the nightcap.

The Wildcat starting pitchers had a rough afternoon, as senior left-hander BRANDON ROHDE (Gig Harbor) and senior right-hander KYLE LONG (Edmonds/Edmonds-Woodway HS) started game one and two, respectively, and combined to give up 24 hits and 14 runs in nine innings of work. Rohde threw six innings in the opener while Long lasted just three innings in the nightcap, the second-shortest outing of his career, but each left with a no-decision.

The two teams will finish up their four-game series on Sunday with a noon doubleheader at Saints Field on the SMU campus.
