BILLINGS, Mont. (Sept. 15) -- Sophomore
Kayla Lipston (Federal Way/Decatur HS) made five saves, but the Central Washington University women's soccer team was outshot 13-4 in suffering a 2-0 loss to host Montana State University Billings on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats, who had won their previous two games in shutout fashion, finished their opening weekend of Great Northwest Athletic Conference play with a 1-1-0 record and are now 2-3-1 overall. MSUB is now 6-0-0 overall, including consecutive wins to open conference action.
"Today was a very 'average' performance for us," CWU head coach
Michael Farrand said. "We did a good job of keeping their primary goal scorers under control, but we still have not been able to find our rhythm consistently, and we're a 'rhythm' team."
Both Yellowjacket goals were breakaway goals by Chelsea Shuman, as she scored at the 35th and 49th minutes to give MSUB all the scoring it would need as CWU managed just four shot attempts in the entire match -- all of which were on goal.
CWU will return home for just its second home match of the season next Thursday (Sept. 20) versus Simon Fraser University. The Wildcats and Clan are slated for a 4 p.m. start.
