SEATTLE (Sept. 22) -- Senior Carson McKole (Oak Harbor) scored her fourth goal of the season at the 74th minute, helping the Central Washington University women's soccer team play to a 1-1 tie with host Seattle Pacific University on Saturday night at Interbay Stadium.

With the draw, CWU remains at the .500 mark overall (3-3-2) and is 2-1-1 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference matches. Seattle Pacific is now 5-2-1 overall and also 2-1-1 in the GNAC.

"We did a great job in the second half," CWU head coach Michael Farrandexplained. "(SPU) went after us in the first half and scored an incredible goal -- a diving header on the back post. We survived that a bit, responded really well, and got back into the game in the second half."

After falling behind at the 31st minute on a goal by Megan Lindsay, McKole's equalizer came from 28 yards away with just under 27 minutes remaining. She took a pass from freshman Lauren Duty (Black Diamond/Tahoma HS), dribbled to the center of the field, and lofted it past Falcons goalkeeper Natalie Harold for the score.

CWU outshot Seattle Pacific 10-7 in the second half, and weathered the storm in the two overtime periods as the host Falcons were credited with eight total shot attempts to the Wildcats' one over the 20 minutes of extra time. SPU also had five corner kicks in the overtime sessions, and CWU sophomore Kayla Lipston (Federal Way/Decatur HS) was called upon to make two saves in the overtimes and nine overall for the game.

"Tonight's game was a combination of a great effort by everybody," Farrand said. "Kayla was great (in the goal with high balls), and she cut off a lot of balls in clutch times. Our whole defense did a tremendous job battling and keeping them out of the box, and our defenders played tremendously. This performance should give us some confidence heading into next week's games."

The Wildcats' road tour continues next week as they visit Saint Martin's University and Western Oregon University on Thursday (Sept. 27) and Saturday (Sept. 29), respectively. CWU is not scheduled to play at home again until an Oct. 4 rematch with SPU.
