Box Score

LACEY (Sept. 27) -- Sophomore Savanna Moorehouse (Bonney Lake) and senior Carson McKole (Oak Harbor) each scored second-half goals to rally Central Washington University from a 2-0 women's soccer deficit, but host Saint Martin's University scored the game-winner with just under six minutes remaining as the Wildcats lost to the Saints, 3-2, on Thursday afternoon.

The Wildcats, who have played eight of their nine games so far this season away from home, fell to 3-4-2 overall and 2-2-1 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Saint Martin's improved to 5-4-0 overall and 3-2-0 in conference play.

Sasha Dini opened the scoring for the Saints, finding the back of the net twice in a span of 124 seconds early in the second half. She scored an unassisted tally at the 47th minute, then followed with her second goal just over two minutes later.

Moorehouse, a midfielder, then scored her first career goal at the 65th minute after taking a pass from freshman Reilly Retz (Kent/Kentwood HS) and beating Saint Martin's goalkeeper Ashley Engel from the top of the box to cut the Wildcats' deficit in half. Then, seven minutes later, McKole, the reigning Red Lion GNAC Offensive Player of the Week, notched her fifth goal of the season as she dribbled her way through the SMU defense for the game-tying goal at the time.

Saint Martin's scored the game-winner with 5:48 left, as Dini crossed a corner kick into the front of the net, where Molly Campbell headed the pass into the goal and gave the host Saints the lead. CWU was unable to get off a shot attempt the rest of the way.

The Wildcats finished with a 14-11 advantage in shots, with 10 of those tries coming in the second half of the contest. Nine of the CWU attempts made it on goal against Engel, who had six of her seven saves in the second half. CWU sophomore Kayla Lipston (Federal Way/Decatur HS) made two saves in the loss.

CWU will finally close out a six-game road trip this Saturday (Sept. 29), visiting Western Oregon University for a 1 p.m. start. The Wildcats are then slated to play seven of their eight games in the month of October at home in Ellensburg -- air quality permitting -- beginning with an Oct. 4 tilt versus Seattle Pacific University.
