ELLENSBURG (Sept. 21) -- Junior Kayla Lipston (Federal Way/Decatur HS) made a season-high eight saves, but the Central Washington University women's soccer team managed just three shots on goal in a 1-0 loss to visiting Western Oregon University on Saturday.

CWU fell to 2-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference matches, while WOU improved to 3-1-2 overall and 1-1-0 in the conference.

The Wildcats, who were coming off a 2-0 victory over Saint Martin's in their home opener on Thursday, stayed even with Western Oregon until the 78th minute, when the Wolves' Makana Pundyke scored her team-leading third goal of the season, taking a pass from Taylor Higa and beating Lipston for the game's lone tally.

Statistically, each team had nearly identical shot totals, with Western Oregon holding a 7-6 edge in that department at halftime. CWU outshot the Wolves by a 7-5 count after halftime, with two of its tries coming on goal, including a final attempt by freshman Stephanie O'Hara (Kent/Kent-Meridian HS) on frame that was saved in the 89th minute.

Lipston kept it a scoreless game by making five saves in the first half, and three more stops after halftime, but the Wolves' ninth shot on goal of the contest by Pundyke found the goal and gave WOU the win.

Junior Savanna Moorehouse (Bonney Lake) had a team-leading four shots, while junior Hadli Farrand (Ellensburg) attempted three shots. Danielle Brandli (Jr., Bellevue/Interlake HS), who has scored all four CWU goals this season, was held to just one total shot attempt in Saturday's loss.

Five different WOU players finished with two shots each. Amanda Rose Johnson made three saves in the goal for the Wolves.

CWU continues its four-match home stand next Thursday (Sept. 26), hosting Northwest Nazarene University at 4 p.m.
