ELLENSBURG (Sept. 26) -- Junior Savanna Moorehouse (Bonney Lake) headed in a pair of goals, and senior defender Tarah Duty (Black Diamond/Tahoma HS) finished with three assists as the Central Washington University women's soccer team defeated visiting Northwest Nazarene University, 4-1, on Thursday afternoon.

The Wildcats moved back to .500 overall (3-3-0), while improving to 2-1-0 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference matches. Northwest Nazarene is now 1-4-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the conference.

"We did a good job in the first half, specifically with the way we scored those goals," CWU head coach Michael Farrand said. "When we do so, it gives everybody a chance to score and proves to be very effective for us. We were able to get our outside backs involved -- Allie (Bohnett) got a goal and Tarah (Duty) had three assists -- so overall I think we attacked all the formations we wanted to."

The Wildcats opened the scoring on the first career goal of freshman defender Allie Bohnett (Gig Harbor), who took a pass from Duty and fired a shot from 25 yards away on the right wing and lofted it into the goal for a 1-0 lead at the sixth minute.

The scoring barrage then started with the first of two header goals by Moorehouse, taking a crossing pass from Duty on the left wing and putting it into the net. After sophomore Lauren Duty s (Black Diamond/Tahoma HS) first goal of the season in the 25th minute, Moorehouse then made it a 4-0 count off another header after a pass from TARAH DUTY.

Moorehouse came into play Thursday leading the team in total shot attempts with 25 but had yet to score on the season. Junior Danielle Brandli (Bellevue/Interlake HS), the lone Wildcat to have previously scored a goal with four tallies in the first five games, did not play against the Crusaders.

"Savanna stepped up and had a nice game for us with the two goals," Farrand said. "We expect her to score, and with Danielle (Brandli) out, we needed her to have a productive game."

CWU outshot Northwest Nazarene by a 13-3 count in the first half while building its lead. Nine of those tries came in the first 26 minutes when the Wildcats scored their four goals.

Junior Kayla Lipston (Federal Way/Decatur HS) took a shutout into the second half, but with just over 15 minutes remaining, NNU's Lexi Fesenbek broke up the shutout with her first goal of the season. Lipston finished the game with four saves.

The Wildcats finished with a 20-11 edge in total shot attempts for the contest, sparked by five attempts from Moorehouse and four from LAUREN DUTY.

Argia Phillips made five saves in goal for Northwest Nazarene.

CWU wraps up its four-game home stand this Saturday (Sept. 28), taking on Montana State University Billings in a noon start.
