Box Score BURNABY, BC (Jan. 11) -- The Central Washington University women's basketball team snapped a 29 game losing streak to Simon Fraser University by defeating the Clan 63-54 in Burnaby, British Columbia.
Central Washington University improves to 6-8 on the season and picks up its first Great Northwest Athletic Conference win of the season (1-5). This win breaks a 29-game losing streak to Simon Fraser that dates back to the 1987-88 season.
Sophomore
JASMINE PARKER (Mead HS) led the Wildcats with 21 points on 10 of 16 shooting and added four rebounds and two blocks. Joining Parker as double-digit scorers were
ALLY SCHMITT (Snohomish HS),
JESSICA VANDYKE (Chester-Joplin-Interverness HS), and
COURTNEY JOHNSON (Kentwood HS) who sores 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early 16-6 lead mid-way through the first-half. Central Washington spent the majority of the half with at least a 10-point advantage and went into halftime with a 31-19 advantage.Â
JASMINE PARKER powered the CWU offensive attack in the half scoring 12 of her points prior to intermission. The Wildcats made 13 of their 31 shots in the first-half, but were 0 of 5 from behind the arc.Â
Central Washington, who never trailed in the contest, led by as many as 10 points in the second-half and never let the Clan get closer than three points.
The Wildcats dominated in the paint, outscoring the Clan 32-18 under the basket. In addition CWU took advantage of their 12 offensive rebounds, scoring 14 second-chance points.
Simon Fraser's Erin Chambers led all scorers with 32 points on 12 of 18 shooting.
The Wildcats will return home for three straight home games starting first with a 7:00 p.m. matchup with Montana State Billings on Thursday, Jan 16 in Nicholson Pavilion.
