CWU Women's Soccer Ready for SPU

ELLENSBURG, Wash (Oct. 10) – The Central Washington University women's soccer team will travel west to battle the Seattle Pacific University Falcons, Thursday, Oct. 2.

The Wildcats, fresh off of their overtime thriller versus Northwest Nazarene University where GNAC Player of the Week Hadli Farrand scored the game-winning goal in the final seconds of play, sit in fourth place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with a 2-2 conference record and are 3-5 overall.

Looking down at the Wildcats in the standings are these Falcons. SPU sits at 2-1-1 in the GNAC and are 4-2-1 overall. The Falcons boast the conference's number one offense averaging 2.43 goals per game while their stout defense allows the third fewest goals-per-game at one per contest.

"The game between the two teams is always a good one," Head Coach Michael Farrand said of Thursday's matchup. "They are one of the perennial powers in the conference and region. For us to be successful we will need to play attacking soccer and control the ball."

Senior keeper Kayla Lipston and the Wildcat defense will have their work cut out for them as the Falcons own the conference's top two scorers. Isabel Farrell and Hannah Huesers are tied for first in the conference with five goals scored apiece. CWU freshman standout Mackenzie Nolte is third on the list with four. Lipston ranks third in the conference in saves with 37.

The Wildcats won both regular season games last season versus the Falcons.

"We are excited to play them," Farrand added. "Chuck [Sekyra] is a great coach and has built a great program over there, and we always look forward to the challenge."

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Be sure to check Wildcatsports.com for live stats and follow @CWUathletics for in-game updates.
