Box Score 2 LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Feb. 8) – The Central Washington University softball team defeated both Cal State San Bernardino and Minot State Saturday to start the season 4-0 for the first time in the history of the program.
Central Washington battled back in its first matchup of the day as they trailed 2-0 after the first inning. The Wildcat bats came alive after two scoreless innings scoring all 10 of their runs in the final five innings, including a five-run fourth inning.
Freshman
KAILYN CAMPBELL (Cedarcrest HS) blasted her first career homerun in the game where she was 2 for 4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Also adding a round-tripper was
ALEXA OLAGUE (Wilson HS), her first of the year.
Senior
MARIA GAU picked up her second win of the year (2-0), despite giving up six runs over three and one-third innings of work.
Freshman pitcher
KIANA WOOD (Aloha, OR/Aloha HS) stole the show in game two as she threw a complete game one-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks. Sophomore
ANDREA HAMADA (Walla Walla) added a solo home run in the nightcap, which was more than enough runs for the Wildcats due to the dominant pitching of Wood.
In total, Wood threw 10 and two-thirds innings giving up just four hits and one run while striking out 10 batters.
The Wildcats will finish up their trip to Las Vegas with just a single game against Western New Mexico at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow (Feb. 9).
