Box Score 2 ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Mar. 16) -- Central Washington University freshman
Taylor Ferleman (Bellevue, WA, Lake Washington) hit an two RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning in game two of the softball teams doubleheader with Montana State Billings to break a tie game and give the Wildcats the 10-7 victory in game one. The Yellowjackets upended CWU in game one by a score of 5-2.
Ferleman was 3-for 4 in game two with two RBI and two runs scored. The shortstop came to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs with the score tied 7-7, and after fouling off a collection of pitches, she blooped a single into right field driving in two runs, and on the play
REMY BRADLEY scored from first base on a throwing error to give the Wildcats the 10-7 edge.
Fellow freshman
Alyssa Egan (Monroe, WA, Monroe) had her best day as a Wildcat going 3-for-4 with two run scoring doubles and two runs scored. She also pitched in relief and earned the win throwing 1 2/3 innings to up her record to 1-1 on the season.
Jill McDaniels (Walla Walla, WA, Walla Walla) also provided some runs for CWU going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In game two the Wildcats outhit the Yellowjackets 17-11. The Yellowjackets had a slight 5-3 advantage in extra-base hits connecting on three doubles, a triple and a homerun.
Central Washington was unable to gain a lead in game one with MSUB scoring two runs in the top of the third inning and three more in the fifth. Central Washington's two runs came in the third and sixth innings on sacrifice fly by Ferleman scoring
Jordan Zurfluh (Adna, WA, Adna), and a RBI single by Egan.
Maria Gau (Woodinville, WA, Woodinville) (6-3) picked up the loss for the Wildcats, throwing all seven innings giving up just four hits with six strikeouts. All five of the runs she gave up came off two hits, the biggest a three-run home run by Samantha Jo Everett in the fifth inning.
Next the softball team will travel to Saint Martin's for a double header next Saturday, followed by a double header at Western Oregon University on Sunday.
