Fitzhugh, Sterkel power Wildcats past Hawks

Ethan Sterkel is batting 17-for-25 (.680) over his last six games
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Ellensburg, Wash (April 18) -- The Central Washington University baseball team grabbed two wins versus Holy Names University Friday with a 15-2 game one win followed by a game two shutout.

The two non-conference wins leaves the Wildcats 23-14 overall as they remain in second place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Senior right fielder, Ethan Sterkel (Ellensburg, WA, Ellensburg), continued his torrid hitting by going 6-for-9 in the two-game set and scoring five runs on the day.

Game one starter, Stuart Fewel (Portland, OR, Wilson), improved to 4-2 on the season throwing eight innings, allowing seven hits, and surrendering two unearned runs.

The Wildcats scored four early runs in the first as nine batters reached the plate.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, freshman Ben Fitzhugh (Las Vegas, NV, Shadow Ridge), drove a ball to left field, and into the wind, for a three-run homerun. Junior Kasey Bielec (Port Orchard, WA, North Mason) would come up five batters later and drive in two more with a double.

Fitzhugh's six RBI's in game one is tied for second most all-time for RBI's in a single game.

Junior Brandon Williams (Auburn, WA, Auburn Mountainview) earned his seventh win of the season throwing six innings of one-hit baseball while striking out seven in game two.

The bottom of the first, again, would prove to be all the Wildcats would need as Fizhugh hit his second three-run homerun of the day to right field.

The Wildcats would add two more runs in the bottom of the fifth as junior Jesse White (Salinas, CA, Salinas) launched a 2-0 fastball into the batting cages in left.

The Wildcats will conclude the series versus the Hawks, as well as celebrate Senior Day tomorrow, April 19.

Game one will start at 11 p.m.
