Box Score 2 SEASIDE, Calif (Apr. 2) -- Central Washington University freshman
Sammy Morris (Bothell, WA, Bothell) accounted for half of the softball team's total hits in their doubleheader against Cal State University Monterey Bay, but the Wildcat were unable to string hits together, losing both games by scores of 4-1 and 2-0.
Central Washington falls to 15-12 on the season, and the 15th ranked Otters improve to 28-5.
Morris was 2-for-3 in the night cap, and 1-for-3 in the opener as the Wildcats totaled just six hits as a team on the day.
CSUMB scored all four of its runs in the second inning on three hits to take a 4-0 lead. Central Washington's lone run came in the top of the sixth inning on a RBI double by
Maikala Galusha (Battle Ground, WA, Battle Ground) that scored
Austin Wilkerson (Ferndale, WA, Sehome).
Wildcat starting pitcher
Maria Gau (Woodinville, WA, Woodinville) threw all six innings and scattered six hits, giving up four runs and four walks while striking out seven batters.
Game two was more of the same for CWU as the Otter pitching staff held the Wildcats to just three hits. Central Washington was only able to reach scoring position just once in the contest on a double down the right field line by Wilkerson.
Taryn Smith (Olympia, WA, Timberline) started in the circle for CWU and had a solid outing allowing just two runs on seven hits.
The softball team will continue its California road trip as they compete in the Tournament of Champions in Turlock, CA. They being the tournament with three games on Apr. 4 against Azusa Pacific (8am) Cal State University Dominguez Hills (2:15pm) and Chico State University at 4:15pm.
