Box Score 2 TURLOCK, Calif. (Apr. 5) – Central Washington University freshmen
Sammy Morris (Bothell, WA, Bothell) and
Taylor Ferleman (Bellevue, WA, Lake Washington) combined to hit 9-for-16 on the day as the Softball team split their two games in Turlock, CA defeating California State University Stanislaus 4-1 in game two, and losing 5-1 to 8th ranked Humboldt State University in game one.
The Wildcats are now 19-13 on the season and 4-1 at the Tournament of Champions.
Game one: HSU 5, CWU 1
Central Washington faced-off with 8th ranked HSU in its first game of the day and fell behind 2-0 in the second inning. Central answered back by scoring its only run of the contest in the bottom half of the inning on a solo homerun by
JILL MCDANIELS.
The Lumberjacks extended upon their lead by adding a run in the top of the third inning and two more in the seventh to give them the final 5-1 edge over CWU.
Humboldt State outhit the Wildcats 8-6, with four of the CWU hits coming from Morris and Ferleman who were 2-for-4 and 2-for-3 respectively.
Game two: CWU 4, CSUS 1
Central Washington returned to its winning ways in its second game of the day as Morris and Ferleman continued their hot hitting. Ferleman had an RBI triple in the second inning and Morris plated
Andrea Hamada (Walla Walla, WA, Walla Walla) on a single to centerfield in the fourth.
After CSUS scored on a wild pitch in the fifth, Hamada gave CWU some insurance runs with a long two-run homerun to left center.
That was more than enough run support for
Maria Gau (Woodinville, WA, Woodinville) who notched her 10th win of the season, scattering four hits while striking out six batters.
Central Washington will most likely compete in the Silver Bracket of the tournament tomorrow starting at Noon, and if they win that game they will again at 2:30 p.m.
