Box Score 2 Ellensburg, Wash (May 2) – The Central Washington University softball team bounced back from an early afternoon loss to advance to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference finals beating Saint Martin's University 9-1 in the night cap.
Maria Gau (Woodinville, WA, Woodinville) struggled early in the game one loss to Western Oregon University. She only lasted 4.1 innings walking four and allowing eight earned runs.
The Wildcats got the scoring going when
Kailyn Campbell (Duvall, WA, Cedarcrest) doubled to left field scoring the first two runs of the game.
The following inning
Jill McDaniels (Walla Walla, WA, Walla Walla) doubled and scored another two runs as
Maikala Galusha (Battle Ground, WA, Battle Ground) and
Sammy Morris (Bothell, WA, Bothell) crossed the plate.
The Wildcats held an early 4-2 lead until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Wolves managed to score six runs in the frame. Western Oregon ace Kelli Demianew pitched in relief for the Wolves and secured the 8-4 win throwing five 1/3 innings of one hit ball.
Gau bounced back in the "win or go home" game vesus the Saints. The starter pitched five strong innings, allowing just five hits and one earned run to improve her season record to 18-7.
The Wildcats scored in every inning they batted, highlighted by the four-run third and three-run fourth.
Morris, would clear the bases in the third inning with a double in the right-center gap that scored
Jordan Zurfluh (Adna, WA, Adna) ,
Michaela Hazlett (Purcell, OK, Purcell) and
Andrea Hamada (Walla Walla, WA, Walla Walla).
Campell, Hamada and Zurfluh would account for more Wildcat runs in the fourth as the trio all collected RBI singles in the frame.
The Wildcats will play Western Oregon University tomorrow in the double elimination format starting at Noon. They will have to win two games against the Wolves in order to claim the GNAC title. The Conference winner will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA regional.
