ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University soccer team takes on a pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference opponents this week. The Wildcats will travel to Bellingham on Thursday (Oct. 8) to take on Western Washington, before coming home on Saturday (Oct. 10) to host Saint Martin's University.
Western Washington enters the weak riding a seven-game winning streak, including a 4-0-0 mark in GNAC play. Overall, the Vikings hold a 9-1-0 record. In their past two matches, Western has recorded victories over Seattle Pacific (1-0) and Trinity Lutheran (7-1).
Catherine Miles, who has compiled six goals and two assists in 10 games, leads the Vikings offensively. Miles boasts a team leading 33 shots, 19 of which have been on target. Elise Aylward has found the back of the net five times, on 16 shots, for a .312 shot percentage. Leading the Vikings in assists is Avanna Moorehouse. She has recorded five assists and one goal.
Ashley Haden has seen the majority of action in net for the Vikings. With 774 minutes under her belt, Haden has posted a record an 8-1-0 record with five solo clean sheets and two combined. Haden has allowed only three goals, while making 27 saves, in nine games. Miranda Head has picked up 132 minutes in goal and been part of two clean sheets.
Western sits atop the GNAC in shots (208), goals (24), goals per game (2.4), and goals against (4). The Vikings also lead the conference in shutouts with seven.
Central Washington owns a 10-34-7 record against Western Washington all-time. The Wildcats are 5-16-4 in Bellingham. The Vikings have not lost to Central Washington since 2011.
Saint Martin's currently holds a 1-7-0 record, with a conference mark of 0-4-0. The Saints are 1-4 in their last five matches, including a 0-2 loss to Concordia University and a 1-4 defeat against Montana State University Billings. Saint Martin's has to go through Simon Fraser before heading into Ellensburg this week.
Abby McFaul and Kelli Bannerman have each notched three of the Saints' ten goals on the season. Hannah Frakes has two goals. Bannerman has the lone game winner for SMU. McFaul leads the Saints with three assists.
Ali Koehler and Sunny DeBoer have split time in cage. Koehler has started three games, and played in five, to tally 345 minutes. DeBoer has played in five games, starting all five, with 383 minutes recorded. Koehler has allowed nine goals and made 11 saves. She has also recorded one clean sheet. Deboer has allowed 10 goals and stopped 25 shots.
Historically, Central Washington is 10-6-0 overall. In Ellensburg the Wildcats have posted a 4-4-0 record against the Saints.
Central Washington is coming off a 1-1-0 week in GNAC play, boasting one of their highest offensive productions in a single match in school history. Overall, the Wildcats are 3-6-0 and 1-3-0 in GNAC matches.
Six different goal scorers found the score sheet for CWU against Northwest Nazarene last week, tying a school record for most goal scorers in a single match.
Whitney Lowe had a hand in three goals, tallying one goal and two assists.
Mackenzie Nolte registered her first goal of the season and added an assist.
Lowe and
Cassie Ripley are tied for the team lead in goals with three. Nolte leads the Wildcats in assists (4) and shots (19).
Amanda White has played every minute for the Wildcats in net, allowing 15 goals and turning 50 aside.
