ELLENSBURG, Wash (Feb. 18) -- This coming weekend the Central Washington University softball team heads to California to play six games in three days against three different competitors. The Wildcats will face Dominican University of California on Saturday (2/21), Holy Names University on Sunday (2/22), and finish up the trip on Monday (2/23) against Academy of Art.

CWU looks to keep playing well after a fantastic 4-1 start in Las Vegas this past weekend outscoring its opponents 34-23, with their only loss coming at the hands of Dixie State University who was the pre-season third-ranked team in the nation.

"I thought we hit really well, and our pitching was really good," CWU Head coach Mallory Holtman-Fletcher. "We had good performances from all three pitchers."

One of those pitchers was freshman Lindsey Kamphuis. The right-handed starter won two games last weekend allowing just 15 hits in 18 innings and threw a complete game in the 10-3 victory versus No. 19 Humboldt State.  Her performance in Las Vegas earned her Great Northwest Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors.

"We came out strong and it's nice to see some players step up," Holtman-Fletcher said. "Our players are getting comfortable with each other on the field."

Dominican University of California is currently 1-6, but have dropped a number of close games so far this year. Holy Names University is 0-6 and looking to bounce back after a slow start. As for Academy of Art, they are currently 3-2 pulling out victories against West Region opponents Cal State East Bay, Cal State Stanislaus, and San Francisco State University.

The Wildcats are excited about the performance they had in Las Vegas but the focus turns to the next six games. All of the games will be available via Wildcatsports.com.

"Next week is going to be getting to know the teams that we are playing and using the momentum we gained from last weekend," Holtman-Fletcher added. "The California Collegiate Athletic Association is a tough conference from top to bottom, so we have to be prepared."
