ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Nov. 2) – The Central Washington University volleyball team hosts Simon Fraser University and No. 15 Western Washington University in a pair of crucial Great Northwest Athletic Conference matches.
The Wildcats are currently ranked eighth in the region and tied for fourth in the the GNAC with Northwest Nazarene University. Both teams have a 9-5 record in GNAC play.
Central Washington continues to lead the nation in blocking, posting three blocks per set.
Sabrina Wheelhouse's efforts put her second in the country, knocking down 1.63 attacks per set.
Erin Little is 13
th within Division II, averaging 1.26 blocks per set.
Kiah Jones earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. The senior outside hitter from Port Angeles, Washington has racked up 214 kills and a hitting percentage of .218. The Wildcats' kill leader also leads the GNAC All-Academic team, posting a GPA of 3.94 in Molecular and Cellular Biology.
Simon Fraser has won its last three matches in straight sets. The Clan last lost against the University of Alaska Anchorage on Oct. 20 in a 3-2 match. A 10-4 GNAC record has the Clan nestled at third in the conference.
Emma Jennings leads Simon Fraser with 218 kills. She has averaged 2.99 kills per set. Jennings has posted a hitting efficiency of .160. Overall, the Clan are hitting .194 on the year and have compiled 1,029 kills.
Tamara Nipp handles the setting duties out of a 5-1 formation for the Clan. In 22 matches, Nipp has compiled 871 assists.
The Clan are averaging 2.05 blocks per set, led by Tessa May. May averages 1.21 blocks per set and has recorded 93 thus far.
Western Washington enters the week as the No. 15 team in the AVCA Coaches' Poll. The Vikings are 16-6 overall and 15-4 in the region, as well as 12-2 in the GNAC.
In road GNAC matches, the Vikings are 17-1 over the past two seasons. Their only road loss came this season against Simon Fraser.
The two sides met earlier this season and the Vikings swept CWU in straight sets.
Offensively, the Vikings lead the GNAC with a .250 hitting efficiency and 13.88 kills per game. Kayleigh Harper leads all GNAC players with a .345 hitting percentage.
First serve is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and 7 p.m. Saturday.
