California Dreaming: Wildcats Head to Turlock for Tournament of Champions

ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Mar. 30) – The Central Washington University softball team is in Turlock, California this weekend for the Tournament of Champions hosted by Stanislaus State University.
 
The Wildcats open tournament play on Friday (Apr. 1) at 10 a.m. against California State University San Bernardino.  The Coyotes are coming off a two-hit shutout by Amanda Ramirez, braking a 10-game losing streak over Sonoma State University.
 
At the plate, Morgan Ratliff and Jessica Angulo lead the way for San Bernardino.  Ratliff is hitting at a clip of .362, while Angulo is batting .357.  Ratliff has swiped 13 bags on the season in 15 attempts.  Kaylee Gemmell leads the Coyotes with four homeruns and is second with 20 runs batted in.
 
Ramirez tossed her best game of the season, but is still 3-4 overall with a 4.81 earned run average.  Leading San Bernardino's pitching staff is Cassandra Williams.  Over 157 innings Williams is 12-12 with a 2.72 earned run average.  She has 13 complete games, three shutouts, two saves, and 144 strikeouts.
 
The Coyotes are hitting .302 collectively with a team ERA of 3.63.  Their overall record is 18-19 and 13-15 in conference.
 
Later on Friday, at 12:30 p.m., Central takes on Azusa Pacific University.  The Cougars are led offensively by Nicki Sprague.  She has a batting average of .443 with three homeruns and 23 runs batted in.  On the base path, Illiana Jimenez leads Azusa Pacific with 19 stolen bases on 20 attempts.
 
In the circle, Narissa Garcia has made 10 starts and 16 appearances with a 7-2 record.  In 71 innings of work she has tossed five complete games and three shutouts.  Opposing hitters have posted an average of .229 off the Cougars' ace.
 
Azusa Pacific has a team average of .344 and a team earned run average of 2.59.  The Cougars are 18-7 overall with a 9-3 record in the Pac West.
 
On Saturday the Wildcats take on No. 3 Humboldt State at 9:15 a.m.  The Jacks are 25-2-1 on the season with their only loss coming in conference play. 
 
Hannah Hollingsworth is hitting at a .414 clip with 31 stolen bases on 35 attempts.  Tiffany Hollingsworth has belted seven homeruns with an average of .386.  She leads the Jacks with 29 runs batted in.  Humboldt State is hitting .278 as a unit, with 20 homeruns and 125 runs batted in.
 
Katie Obbema and Madison Williams have split the duties in the circle.  Obbema is 12-2 in 14 starts with a 1.49 ERA.  She has struck out 70 hitters.  Williams has posted 128 strikeouts over 88 innings. In 14 appearances, 13 starts, she has a 12-0 record and an ERA of 1.35.  Combined, the two have pitched 22 complete games and seven shutouts.
 
The Wildcats second game on Saturday comes against San Francisco State at 11:30 a.m.  The Gators are 19-12 overall and 16-8 in CCAA games. 
 
Madison Collins leads the way at the plate, hitting .300.  The Gators have a team average of .276 with 11 homeruns and 114 runs batted in.  Alexis Mattos has stolen 11 bases on 13 attempts.
 
Megan Clark has posted a 9-4 record over 93.2 innings.  Her earned run average is 2.17 and she has struck out 45 hitters.
 
As a pitching staff the Gators have a 2.78 ERA with 19 complete games. 
 
Central's first game on Sunday (Apr. 3) is against Cal State University East Bay at 11:30 a.m.  The Pioneers are 11-17 overall with an 8-14 record in the CCAA.
 
Rose Marston is hitting .407 through her first 81 at-bats with three homeruns and 13 runs batted in.  The leader in the clubhouse for runs driven in is Ali Cerminara with 22.  The Pioneers are hitting .273 as a unit.
 
In the circle Tatiana Beilstein has done the heavy lifting for East Bay.  In a team high 12 starts she has posted a 4-8 record with an ERA of 2.42.  In 78 innings she has posted eight complete games and one shutout.  As a unit the Pioneers have an ERA of 2.93 with 114 strikeouts.  Opposing hitters have an average of .277.
 
The Wildcats' final game of the tournament is scheduled for 2 p.m. against University of California San Diego.  The Tritons are 20-13 overall and 14-11 in the CCAA thus far in 2016.
 
Maddy Lewis has posted a .391 average, with 25 runs batted in, and 12 stolen bases.  Leading UCSD in homeruns is Kelsi Maday.  She has five on the season with 19 runs batted in.  Maday is also the leader in stolen bases with 18, she has only been thrown out once.
 
The Tritons have a team average of .287.
 
Lexi Edwards and Lauren Brown have handled the majority of the pitching duties for the Tritons.  Edwards is 9-5, with a 1.79 ERA, over 97.2 innings.  She has struck out 54 hitters and hurled seven complete games.  Brown is 8-5 with a 2.81 ERA.  In 74.2 innings she has struck out 40 hitters.  Edwards is holding opposing hitters to a .235 average, while Brown is allowing opposing hitters to reach at a .271 clip.  The Tritons' team ERA is 2.92.
 
The Wildcats are coming off of a 5-1 week in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play, bringing their record to 21-8 overall and 9-7 in conference. 
 
Kailyn Campbell and Celine Fowler are both posting gaudy averages over .400 in the Wildcats' first 29 games.  Campbell has a .439 average with four homeruns and 23 runs batting in.  Her .439 leads GNAC hitters.  Fowler is hitting .311 with 12 stolen bases.  Austin Wilkerson leads the Wildcats in both homeruns (six) and RBI (26). The Wildcats are hitting .324 as a team with 67 swiped bags.
 
Kiana Wood and Brielle Copodonna have handled the majority of the work in the circle for CWU, but freshman Kayla Smith has begun to see consistent time as a starter.  Wood is 11-3 overall with a 2.62 ERA.  Copodonna is 6-5 with a 3.39 ERA, while Smith is 4-0 with a 1.85 ERA.  They have combined for 81 strikeouts.  As a unit, the Wildcats' staff has an ERA of 2.77.
