ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Apr. 7) -- The Central Washington University softball team will play host to Montana State Billings University this Friday and Saturday in four important Great Northwest Athletic Conference matchups.
The Wildcats 25-10, 9-7 in the GNAC, currently sit in second place in the conference behind Saint Martins who holds a 10-4 GNAC record. Billings comes into this weekend with a 10-24 record and are on the bottom of the conference standings with a 2-10 mark.
Billings, the defending GNAC Tournament champions have won just once in its past seven contests, a 6-4 win over Cal State East Bay, and are just 3-12 in its past 15 contests.
The Yellowjackets own a respectable .308 team batting average, led by Heather Tracy who is hitting a GNAC best .435 on the season with five homeruns and 19 runs batted in. Cameron Cassinelli also brings power with 10 homeruns and 30 RBI, and a .353 batting average.
The MSUB Struggles have been in the pitching circle as their pitchers have combined for a 7.14 earned run average, which ranks last in the GNAC. Their defense also ranks last with a .933 fielding percentage having committed 65 errors on the season.
The Wildcats lead the conference in team defense with a fielding percentage of .964, having committed just five errors in the last 10 games.
Central Washington also boasts a formidable offense with a team batting average of .314 led by
Kailyn Campbell and
Celine Fowler who are hitting .408 and .385, respectively.
The Wildcats own the second-best ERA in the conference at 2.85 led by
Kiana Wood who is 15-3 on the season with a 2.31 ERA and is fresh off her third GNAC Pitcher of the Week selection after going 4-0 at last week's Tournament of Champions.
Friday's contests start at 1 p.m. and Saturday the doubleheader starts at Noon. Friday's doubleheader will be streamed live at Wildcatsports.com
