Softball Starts Back Half of GNAC Play at Home

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University softball team is back in action this week when they host Simon Fraser University and Western Washington University this weekend at Gary and Bobbi Frederick Field.

Saturday Apr. 8 vs Simon Fraser (7-19, 3-7 GNAC) at 1 p.m. & 3p.m.

GNAC WEEKLY HONORS
Central Washington University seniors Kailyn Campbell and Kiana Wood were named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, leading the softball team to a 6-1 record in California.
 
Including the Wildcats 4-3 extra inning win over Stanislaus State on Wednesday, Campbell hit .520 over the course of the week.  She totaled 13 hits, 10 runs batted in, three doubles and a homerun.  Campbell was also active on the base paths swiping eight bases, and played flawless defense, going errorless in 77 chances.
 
Wood finished the week with a 3-0 record and a save.  Wood picked up three complete game victories and a shutout in the Wildcats 7-0 win over Cal State San Bernardino in the opening game of the TOC.  In her two other starts, Wood went above and beyond the call of duty, going all nine innings against Stanislaus State, and the full 10 in the epic TOC finale against Sonoma State.
 
 
NEWS AND NOTES
  • The Wildcats are coming off a very successful seven-game road trip to California where they went 6-1, taking second place in the 26 team Tournament of Champions held in Turlock, Calif.
  • CWU is riding an 11-game conference win streak coming into this weekend's four game stretch.
  • 12 different CWU batters are hitting over .300 for the season
  • Taylor Ferleman has raised her batting average 104 points since the start of GNAC play, , and hasn't committed an error in the last 22 games.
  • Next weekend, CWU travels to Montana State Billings for a four-game series.
