The Pioneers sit at 0-1-1 on the 2019 season, after compiling a 7-8-3 record in 2018. In conference play, East Bay finished 2-7-3 in CCAA competition.
Their most recent contest on Monday (Sept. 9) against Hawaii Hilo ended in a 0-0 draw. There was a plethora of chances, despite the final score. East Bay rattled off 21 shots, only eight of which were on target. The Pioneers defense allowed 18 shots, 10 of which were on goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Jordan Smith turned aside all 10 shots on goal for East Bay and played all 110 minutes.
Junior Riley Spitzer led the Pioneers with eight shots, two of which were on goal. Both Chace Miguel and Bri Vallente each fired four shots.
Spitzer leads the Pioneers in points with three, coming on one goal and one assist. Lauren McDougal is the only other East Bay player to register a goal in the ledger thus far.
Miguel returns to the lineup after scoring four goals, and adding two assists, for ten points in 2018.
Alongside Miguel, Abby Buitrago returns for the Pioneers. Buitrago tied the team lead for goals last season with five, however she did not play in East Bay's match against Hawaii Hilo. She played 81 minutes against Notre Dame de Namur in the opening game of the season, registering two shots.
Smith has handled both matches in goal for the Pioneers. The freshman has allowed four goals, all coming against Notre Dame de Namur and made 16 saves. The Douglas High School (CA) graduate was a 2018 All-League Goalkeeper.
Defensively, East Bay has struggled to keep their opposition's attack from reaching the final third of the pitch. In just two matches, opponents have fired 28 shots towards the Pioneers goal, 20 of which have been on target.

The Wildcats fell to Cal State San Marcos, 1-0, in the final game of their road trip. Hannah Arcala found the back of the net for the Cougars in the 23
rd minute.

Central Washington managed five shots, two on goal, against the Cougars while allowing 10 shots.
A lull in offense during the second half was broken by the Wildcats when
Makinzie Packwood fired a shot goalward, but it was turned aside.

Central Washington and Cal State East Bay last met on September 11, 2014 in Nampa, Idaho. A 60
th minute goal from Megan Ravenscroft gave the Pioneers the 1-0 victory.
The Wildcats outshot East Bay in the first half, while the Pioneers flipped the script in the second half and outshot Central 10-6.
Kayla Lipston made five saves in the second half for the Crimson and Black.
Nearly eight years earlier, Central Washington and East Bay met for the first time in Hayward, California on October 11. Again, the Pioneers were able to come away with a one-goal victory.
Ashley Shadd opened the scoring for East Bay in the second minute. Monica Nelson made it a 2-0 game in the seventh minute in favor of the Pioneers.
The Wildcats' offense clawed their way back, cutting the deficit in half during the 31
st minute. Lynde Clarke took a pass from Arica Slawson and fired it past the Pioneer keeper.
After an East Bay goal in the 55
th minute by Jeanne Garcia, Lisa Overbo slotted a goal for the Wildcats in the 87
th minute. All four of the Wildcats shot were on goal and split between Overbo and Clarke.
