Soccer Opens 2019 Campaign at Fresno Pacific

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University women's soccer team opens their season at Fresno Pacific University.

MATCH INFORMATION
at Fresno Pacific
Thursday, Sept. 5
7:00 PM
Fresno, Calif.

QUOTABLE
"Rob [Podeyn] has done a great job and has a long history with Fresno Pacific," CWU Head Coach Michael Farrand said.  "We had to open up on the road last year without much outdoor practice.  There were moments in last year's game between us that were good, but we have to be better going down there.  We need to put our brand of play in order, match their work rate, and find a little success on our end."

SCOUTING FRESNO PACIFIC | ROSTER | SCHEDULE | 2018 STATS
After finishing 7-10-1 in 2018, Fresno Pacific is looking for better results in its non-conference schedule in 2018 after finishing PACWEST play with a 7-4 record.

Rob Poedyn's roster contains three seniors.  Rachel Anderson was one of only three players in 2018 to play and start all 18 games for the Sunbirds.  She tallied two goals and five assists, finishing third on FPU's squad with nine points.  Her five assists were a team high.  Joining Anderson as seniors are forward Carolina Saldivar and defender Alyssa Kincade.

Kincade played in 17 matches during 2018, starting 15.  She tallied two assists and accumulated 1,322 minutes.  Kincade helped anchor a back line which allowed 28 goals and posted five clean sheets during the 2018 campaign.

Hannah Hathaway returns in goal for the Sunbirds.  Following the departure of Alex Benevidez, Hathaway looks to claim the starting job for Poedyn.  She appeared in two games, both starts, last season and allowed four goals, while making four saves.

Mackenzie Reynolds led the Sunbirds' offense with six goals.  She added two assists to the ledger for a team-high 14 points.  Three of her six goals came as game winners.

Tori De Leon finished third in scoring last season with four goals on just 23 shots.  Only 10 of her shots were on goal, creating a scoring success rate of 40 percent.  The Sunbirds lost Whitney Snow (5G-2A=12P) to graduation and will look to find an attacker who can step into her role.  De Leon is the natural fit after her success during her freshman campaign.

THE 2019 WILDCATS
Central Washington is primed for the 2019 season with a host of new faces.

Graduation saw the departure of KK Wallace, Kennedy Anson, Emily Minogue, Lexsi Manning, Olivia Olason, and Bailey Martoncik, creating plenty of chances for younger players to step in.

Returning up front for the Wildcats are Madison Bradley and Makinzie Packwood.  Bradley and Packwood scored four goals each last season with Bradley taking the team lead in points after adding an assist.

Through the midfield, Sydney Lowe is looking for another strong season after her freshman year.  She tallied one goal and three assists for Farrand in 2018.

Paige Devine and Olivia Sloan will patrol through the middle third of the pitch.  Devine tallied one goal last year, while Sloan put away her first collegiate point with an assist.  Sloan moves to the midfield after spending the majority of 2018 as an outside back.

Central's backline will rely on Alyssa Barden and Chelsea Marozik.  Barden led the Wildcats with 1,523 minutes played as a center back.  Marozik tallied one assist from her outside back slot in limited action.

After making 51 saves in 2018, Emily Thomson returns for her junior season for the Crimson and Black.  She allowed just 19 goals in 1,326 minutes and recorded four clean sheets.

FPU v CWU HISTORY
The Wildcats and Sunbirds opened the 2018 season down in Fresno as well, where they played to a 1-1 draw.

Packwood's first collegiate goal came in the waning seconds of the 90th minute, forcing a pair of overtime periods.  Neither side was able to find the golden goal in extra time, securing the second draw in as many matches between Central Washington and Fresno Pacific.

The Sunbirds scored first in the 62nd minute of play when Kincade chipped the Wildcats' back line, finding Snow for the header and a 1-0 lead.

In 2017, the Wildcats welcomed the Sunbirds to Ellensburg for an early season fixture, resulting in a 4-4 draw. Mackenzie Nolte netted a hat trick, scoring three goals in the first half.  She put the Wildcats up 1-0 in the fourth minute, before Mariah Montoya, Anissia Gonzalez, and Jessica Dondlinger each scored for Fresno.

Nolte then scored back-to-back goals in the 32nd and 43rd minutes, levelling the score at 3-3.  Sophia Keenan gave the Crimson and Black a 4-3 lead with a 61st minute marker, but the Wildcats' lead was washed away in the 80th minute when Mackenzie Reynolds found the back of the net.
