Saints, Wolves Await Wildcats in GNAC Action

ELLENSBURG, Wash. — The Central Washington University women's soccer team is back on the road after a four-game home stretch.

"Being on the road again we are going to have to be very focused and be ready to go," Assistant Coach Emmy Koflanovich said. "We have been figuring things out this week and the team has been adaptive into what has been coached to them.  I am excited to see what they can do in our next two games.  Our goal for these next away games are to be able to put a full 90 minutes together and  play like we are capable of. It should be a fun two games."

SCOUTING SAINT MARTIN'S
The Saints enter the week at 3-9-0 overall with a 2-6-0 record in GNAC play. Last week, Saint Martin's finished 0-2-0 in a pair of one-goal games. They opened the week with a 1-0 loss at Western Washington, before falling to Western Oregon 2-1.

Maddie Wolff scored the Saints' lone goal on the week. She scored in the 89th minute against the Wolves. Wolff leads the Saints in scoring with three goals.

Behind Wolff is Kiersten Madsen with a pair of goals. Six other Saints have also scored once. Rebecca Garrison leads Saint Martin;'s in assists with two. In total, a dozen SMU players have registered at least one point. The Saints have scored 11 goals on 154 shots. They are averaging 0.92 goals per game and 12.8 shots per contest. They have put 39 percent of their shots on goal.

Defensively, meanwhile, they have allowed 18 goals on 150 shots. Opponents have put shots on frame at a clip of 43.3 percent. Ali Campigotto has appeared in nine starts for the Saints and allowed 14 goals. She's made 37 saves, on 107 shots, for a goals against average of 1.65. Soph Mendoza has made starts and four appearances. She has made 11 saves and allowed four goals.

Central Washington recorded their lone GNAC win over the Saints in Ellensburg in a 4-1 affair. Sydney Lowe opened the scoring in the eighth minute. After a goal from SMU's Rachel Kimura, Grace Jackson buried the game-winner early in the second half. Casey Park added an insurance marker before Lowe notched the brace with a goal in the waning moments. Megan Fox and Liz Canton split time in goal, making five saves total.

SCOUTING WESTERN OREGON
The Wolves are 4-6-2 overall and 3-3-2 in GNAC play. Last week they posted a 1-1-0 record, putting up a 2-1 margin over Saint Martin's after falling to Simon Fraser 3-0.

Jenna Efraimson and Alyssa Talkington scored, giving the Wolves a 2-0 lead. Both goals were scored after the 87th minute. Saint Martin's got one goal back in the final two minutes, but the Wolves held on for the win. Olivia Holdenried made one save in the outing.

Prior to playing the Wildcats on Saturday, Western Oregon hosts Northwest Nazarene on Thursday.

Leading the Wolves' scoring efforts are Piper Matson and Jada Foster with three goals each. Talkington has scored a pair, while four others have buried a single goal. Chloe Smith has amassed four assists, a team high. Behind her is Erika Moreno with three and Hannah Rispler (2). Three players have tallied one assist on the year. Western Oregon is averaging goal per game on 11.3 shots. In total, they've taken 135 shots and scored 12 times. The Wolves are on target with 42.2 percent of their chances.

Opponents have found the back of the net 16 times this year. Emily Wheeler, Darien Walton, and Olivia Holdenried have all made appearances in goal for the Wolves, including at least one start for each. Wheeler has amassed the most minutes, being on-field for 548 of her team's 1,125 minutes played. Walton has compiled 450, while Holdenried sits at 127 minutes. Walton has allowed eight goals, the most of the three keepers, while Holdenried has allowed just one. Wheeler has allowed seven and made the most saves (24). Walton has denied 20 shots and Holdenried has made three saves. Opponents are averaging 13 shots per game and just over a goal per game at 1.33.

LAST TIME OUT
Central Washington dropped both of its games last week. They were shutout in both contests. No. 8 Seattle Pacific mounted an offensive against the Wildcats, before CWU played a tight 1-0 contest against Northwest Nazarene.

Liz Canton made saves against the Nighthawks. The lone NNU goal came off the boot of Ashley Parton in the 63rd minute. She received a throw-in from Kailyn LaBrosse and twisted a shot into the back of the net.

The Wildcats have not lost to Saint Martin's University since 2012, when the Saints took both ends of the season series in one-goal games. Central has won every game against the Saints since October 11, 2018, in which a game in Lacey, Washington ended in a 1-1 draw. The Wildcats have scored at least two goals in the last four games against SMU, dating back to October 20, 2018.

In the last 10 meetings against Western Oregon, CWU holds a 3-4-3 record. Their last win over the Wolves came in Monmouth on October 25, 2018. Central's lone goal was scored by Emily Russell in the 81st minute.
